Today was the first of 5 days of community work at a place called DREAM House. DH is a community home for a mixture of kids from Thailand or just across the boarder in Burma, most of the kid no longer have parents so live here on a permanent basis (mainly Thai) while the rest live during term time as their parents are unable to get them to a school (mainly Burmese). The house is currently in a bad way due to it being poorly run by an individual who was taking money from the Starfish Project Foundation and using it for her own personnel gain and not for the kids. The house has been taken over by Starfish to improve there living quarters.. Due to a grant by the Bangkok and Burmese Governments there is currently a new house being built which will apply to all Western International standards, we should be at this sit on Thurs and Friday. Until this is finished the Kids are still liking at DH, so in the mean time the plot of land needs improving to make it safe in the short term.. The first job has been to pull down the existing fence bordering the plot and replace it with one that doesnt have hole and gaps everywhere!! The pulling down was easy part, took maybe and hour. The next part wasnt so, holes had to be dug for new fence post up to 600mm deep into solid clay!! In the remainder of the day a total of 30holes on 2sides of the square plot had to be dug! Between me and 1 other we dug 7each, the other 12 guys managed 16 holes between them!! It was a typical first day not very rewarding as there was no visual proof of work!!
