So the adventures began in Sao Paulo after one long flight which had such amazing inflight entertainment that i didn´t even get scared which was new for me!
Despite both myself and Kate forgetting to note down Lorna´s flight details (she flew in on a different flight) we eventually found her, and then we eventually found Janaina (my old au-pair who lives in Sao Paulo) as me being me had told her the wrong terminal! ooops!
Sao Paulo is possibly the largest city I have ever seen! It has something like 21 million inhabitants and their roads are bigger than our motoways. This is rather scary when we kept forgetting that they drive on the wrong side of the road here so go to cross and nearly get hit by a car - we are getting used to it a bit more now!!
So we stayed with Janaina and her husband Fabricio and their beautiful son Leo for the weekend. It was nice to have some home comforts at the start of the trip and it allowed all three of us to settle into the swing of things a bit and just generally catch up with each other as we hadnt seen each other properly since finishing uni in June!!
On our first day we went for a little wonder in Janaina´s neighbourhood Vila Madilena which is beautiful but know one really speaks English over here so we had some issues when ordering some drinks to escape the rain which just came from know where.
We experienced our first Samba club in Sao Paulo which was immense, but the samba is a hard dance i have to admit. We also went to our first market where we tried the yumi yet extremley lethal drink known as Caprinhia. This, along with beer is the drink to drink in Brazil. The markets are hectic, we visited the main fruit market which was so bright. The smell of all the fruit and spice was delicious.
It was nice to be taken around Sao Paulo, however we did eventually venture out alone to visit the main cathedral in an area called Se...and we got the metro home which was much easier than we had anticipated so we were all very proud of ourselves. We also visited Ibirapuera Parque which is a huge and very beaituful park near the centre of Sao Paulo. It did however take us about 3 hours to find the parque and another 3 hours to find our way home. We must of walked for like 15 miles. It was a very stressful time as for somer reason every road we walked up was a hill...we were not happy bunnies! But we did see a lot of Sao Paulo, including Avenue Paulista which is where all the banks are - yes we managed to find all the men in suits haha!!
I loved Sao Paulo, however we were all excited to see the rest of Brazil, in particular the beaches. We decided to go down to the coast and work our way up to Rio that way - oly 500km of beaches to visit first! wooop!!!
