Actually pronounced by the local as "Yo-te-bor-ee", Gothenburg has been quite a vibrant city. It's difficult to rival the incredible Stockholm, but Gothenburg still has delivered well. There has been PLENTY happening here this weekend. We've counted about 5 different outdoor exhibitions, festivals or concerts. We stumbled across the "Way Out West" festival as we were out and about. We think this is where they put the Goth into Gothenburg. Couldn't help but feel a bit square asking someone with tattoos and a ring through their nose "Excuse me, we're
looking for the museum or natural history. We're here to see the world's only stuffed blue whale." It was quite big by the way, the whale that is.
We've also had contender for best restaurant at a French place called Kock and Vin. The Swedish char, red salmon with a crispy skin that defied belief! Rocks as bread plates and twigs straight from the Swedish forest to accompany our appetiser. A bit posh, but not too pretentious. Smoking dry ice fruits for dessert and we rolled out of there oo-ing and ah-ing for hours.
There was also a "Foods of the world" exhibition with Australian flag flying high serving Aussie BBQ burgers. We sampled a few countries with great success.
We've also spent some time getting about town on the trams as well as spending a few hours at the beach in Askin. We know the weather has been pretty cold at home, but take some comfort that the summer here has only been experienced in patches so it's not all that bad!
It's been one month since we left London, sniff sniff, but we've still lucky enough
to have so much more to see and do. Next up is a couple of nights in a castle in Genarp!
