Zvi Josef's Travels
After yet another great night sleep, we woke up to another semi-rainy morning, but that did not ruin any of our plans since we are now officially water-proof. :)
We started the day with Vaci Utca (the beautiful shopping street of Budapest), Vigadu Square and Mihaly Square - both lovely with typical East European building styles all over the place.
We went by the Inner City chapel, which was under some major reconstructions and went through to a major Humgarian market - where else can one buy Paprika??? :)
After that we wanted to visit the famous Ervin Szabo library, but when we arrived it turned out to be closed (for rennovations...). <sigh>
We then visited the Univercity church, which was lovely, and headed for the great Synagogue of Budapest in the Jewish district.
It's the 3rd biggest synagogue in the world (the bigger two others are in NYC and Jerusalem). The synagogue itself is breathtaking, and adding the holocaust memorial in the back yard (the beautiful "Weeping willow") - it was very emotional.
Despite me being so secular, I said 2 short prayers to remember my 120 family members who were murdered by the Nazis, some of them from Budapest.
The synagogue also has a nice little museum for Jewish history in Budapest and a research center.
We later wandered a bit in the Jewish quarter, visited an Evangelical church and headed back to the hotel for some lounging and rest before the great dinner planned ahead. :)
We had a great dinner at La Bourbon restaurant. We went there looking super-elegant, thus when we returned via Vaci Utca, a guy asked us which church do we represent. :) Ha-ha! :)
