This morning we left New York and took the train to Boston. A good trip and we bought a 2 day ticket for a trolley tour at the train station before heading to our apartment. That means for the next two days we can hop on and off the trolley bus any time between 9 and 5 plus we get a 1 hour cruise. Not bad for $40. Rain has been forecast for tomorrow so we might do some of the indoor attractions.
Our apartment is situated in the area known as Little Italy, so we are surrounded with Italian restaurants and when we walked along the street today the men sounded like Tony Soprano and the music playing was usually Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin :-)
I felt at home after growing up among an Italian community in Melbourne.
Our apartment is very small (which we knew when we booked) but it's a great location and we like having a kitchen :-)
The only down side was lugging heavy suitcases up the stairs but we only had to do it once.
When we walked up the street this afternoon we came across the famous shop 'Mike's Pastry'. We went in to have a look and it was quite crowded so we just gawked at the massive cakes - looked so good - and decided to come back another time when it was quieter. After a lovely dinner tonight (guess what we had - Italian!!) we walked back to the Pastry shop and it was overflowing with people so we will hold off for another day! But we did have a lovely conversation with a woman from Kansas who was drooling over the cakes but couldn't buy one as she'd been dieting for 2 months for her daughter's wedding this weekend. After the wedding she's coming back for cake! She was a real hoot.
We need an earlier night tonight as
we've been having really late nights (or very early mornings...)
