Today was a free day so I didn't have to set the alarm and slept in until 8.15. It was raining so I decided to walk down to Notre Dame - about 15-20 mins walk away - and have breakfast along the way. I walked through the cathedral and then decided to go up to the tower for the views. There must have been a billion little steps spiralling very tightly upward - it went on and on and I was starting to get dizzy when I finally reached the top. It had stopped raining and the views were amazing so well worth the climb. I then took off to find the famous Berthillon ice cream shop that was about 15 mins walk away. Finally found it and spent 2.50 Euro on a small scoop of chocolate ice cream. Best ice cream I have ever had and the small scoop was just enough. I then walked down to the Seine to the Batobus - a hop-on hop-off boat that stops at various key spots. I got off near The Louvre and spent a good hour or so walking around in there - if I'd had more time I would have stayed for longer but I wanted to visit Galeries Lafayette and get back before dark. Took the train and found the store - I saw some amazing clothes but everything I wanted to buy was about $1,000 each so I just walked around all the various floors full of high end fashion - sigh. I caught the train back and discovered while I was on it that it no longer stops at the stop I needed to get off at to change trains. Oh oh. But I managed to work out that if I got off at a certain other stop I could change to another line and still get home. I'm getting the hang of this! Now I'm sitting on my bed watching a French cooking show - Master Chef style and they're making cakes and pastries - just wish I could understand what they are saying!!!
