Hola!!!
We have decided that we will be writing separate blogs on this page. The only disagreement we have had thus far is that Jen always tells me off and changes what I want to write!! Therefore Jen will write the boring stuff like what we´re doing, how much we miss you and how we wish you were all here...blah..blah..blah.. and I will provide a more interesting look at travelling. Hopefully a bit of amusement, maybe a few anecdotes. Anyway Jennies already telling me off............
Sorry about him! Anyway this is what we have done so far
Day 1 - Quito
After a lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast we set off from our hotel to explore the old town. We decided to walk and it was quite a long way but through some lovely parts. Quito is a very unique place - the new town has some pretty parts but some bits are really dlipidated and a bit like a shanty town!! It is also packed everywhere and so feels safe.
We walked through some lovely parks and the weather was gorgeous - v hot and sunny. After exploring the old town- looking in some cathedrals and sittng in the squares with kids polishing shoes we had lunch - a whole plate of meat - I think!! Lets just say having no Spanish is not easy - Lex you were right!!
After lunch we sat in the park and just chilled out - a much needed rest after our long day of travelling.
Yesterday we took a long bus ride to a place called Mitad del mundo. The bus was packed with kids who had just finished school. Mitad del mundo was ok- didn´t really get the fuss- it is 0 degrees latitude - whatever! - but it was a nice place to wander round.
We have now just had breakfast and are about to leave our hostel and catch the bus to a place called Latacunga - a 2 hour bus drive through what should be beautiful mountain scenery.
Hope you are all well - love you loads
Jen
P.s. - Lex - how was your first day?
The Pickle
Just wanted to let everyone know how my ailments are. 14 hours on a bloody plane wasn´t exactly comfortable! Yesterday I woke with a sore shoulder which over night has moved up my neck!! I also caught the sun quite badly and as for wet shaving (something i´ve not done since I was 17) my face feels like its on fire!
So how have I coped and retained my humour?
Plate of Nachos - $1
Local beer - $2
Round the world air ticket - 4000 pounds
Look on Jennies face when her hairdryer doesn´t work properly - Priceless!!
- Dad and Wheels keep the useless world trivia coming and Charlie - Chin Up!!
Next time I´ll let you know my thoughts on the local language which unlike my Spanish I have plenty to talk about!!
Love you all
Jen and Rich
