2 Weeks (plus a day) and counting, til we pack our carefully planned luggage (with ample space for 'take homes') and get on a plane headed for Europe!
Ask us how many times we've packed and re-packed... or don't bother, it's embarassing.
A few house keeping notes:
We are not sure how much access we will have to the internet while we are away. I'm sure the hotels will have computers (it's not 1971, or a remote jungle community), but it will be difficult to constantly post updates about the trip. I think the new plan will be to update this blog any chance we get... the frequency of the posts may not be as consistent as we had initially anticipated.
We WILL be keeping nightly journals so that we can write down every memory and detail of this monumental 3 week vacation!
Also, just a quick weather forecast update...
I am pleased to announce that London looks to be sunny with partial clouds and a high of about 24 degrees for the day we land! Pray that the weather gods will bless our vacation with favourable conditions in every city !
Lastly, I wanted to talk a little bit about our stops in Munich and Berlin.
Munich is the second stop on our 3-city tour from Vienna. We will take a train through the Alpine countryside through Austria and into Deutschland, (or Germany) and spend 3 days in the Bavarian capital of Munich.
We have decided to book an afternoon tour of the Dachau Concentration Camp. Germany has such a rich history, and we are going to marvel at the architecture and the innovation of such a dominant world power. But, there have been some dark days, some blemishes, that have greatly affected the course of history - and we want to learn all that we can about those significant moments too.
On a lighter note, we also want to visit BMW-Welt (BMW World/museum), The famous 'fairytale' Palace Neuschwanstein, the Viktualienmarkt, Olympic park... and lots of old churches.
Then we hop on the train once more, headed for the German capital of Berlin. I get goose bumps just writing it. So much history, so much culture, so much shopping! Yes, we will be doing all the typical stuff: Checkpoint Charlie, The Berlin Wall, Reichstag, Bradenburg Gate, Museum Island, Potsdamer platz etc. But we have also scheduled time for enjoyment of our last stop on the tour. We want to stroll down the streets in Berlin and take it ALL in. We have purposefully designated free time for doing just that. Being spontaneous, finding hidden gems, delighting in a world-class city.
That will conclude our travels - 3 weeks, 5 cities, trains, planes, boat and foot travel and a million moments to remember.
We will be posting detials of our hotel and how to get in contact with us while we are away, so stay tuned.
And please share in our journey by visting the blog for updates, pictures and news, starting September 7th!
