Hey guys,
O.k...wow...so here I am in Birmingham! Weoley Castle, Birmingham, to be precise!
It's a low socio-economical area with the RSPCA directly opposite my accomodation.
My trip here included a cancelled train (creating a plan B train route) and several delayed lines. I had to transfer three times. This time, I actually did bump a few people with my accessively oversized pack! Oppps. Mum knows this for a fact, as, I was talking to her whilst in transit! Haha.
I arrived at the RSPCA at 9pm sunday night. My initial reaction when I reached the location...shock. There was rubbish everywhere and it was in an area that semi looked industrial. The night nurse was very friendly and showed me around the massive premises. Security measures are high...swipe cards for most doors and baricades in reception with microphones to speak into! There are two surgeries, about four wards a radiography room, a huge laundry, two consult rooms, a wildlife ward, isolation...it continues...pretty much, it's huge!
I was then shown across the road to my accomodation...the nurses home. It was big, cold, without occupants, but still looked lived in. There were left behind items, rubbish and empty containers in most rooms. I picked the least messy room with the least belongings left in it. I thoroughly cleaned it that same night and emptied it of excess belongings. I had no hot water or heating and the toilet kept refilling overnight! (yes...I did try and fix it).
The following day, I actually had off to recover from my week of night shifts (my new boss is a true blessing). I walked across the road to the RSPCA to explain my problem with the heating etc and they kindly sent a maintenance man. In the meantime I went into a nearby town, Harborne, to try and sort out my finance crisis (still having dramas transferring my money across and accessing my bank account). Harborne is a cute high street (that's what they call the main street, lined with shops). Pretty much just the essentials and a few pubs. The rest of the day was spent sorting the house out. I'm there by myself until further notice! It's actually quite nice having my own space and running a place how I like.
This week has sped by. I spent the week on as theatre/neuter nurse. Just to help me settle into things and not to overwhelm me so soon. It is ultra busy, having on average fifteen surgeries to do a day...and that's just routine. I have one to two vets on in the morning and a different vet on for the afternoon. Everyone is ultra friendly, positive and goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. I LOVE it. There are about 25 nurses in total...but about 10-15 rostered on at one time. The sytstem seems to be really efficient and work really well.
Weoley Castle...the town I'm located in...what so I say. It's a tiny little town with the bare essentials. Interesting area! Often strong smells of marijana wafting around and for a small town there are far too many betting places and mini casinos. There is also a lot of tagging, including along the fence of my house. But, all in all, the people are amazing, as is my job. I love it for that!
I have no landline, but, if you want to contact me, let me know. I'm allowed to utilise the RSPCA lines for incoming calls out of hours.
Internet...well, I have a bit of a system...I've signed up to the local library and if I briskly walk/run here straight from work, I get half an hour internet usage during the week and Saturdays for an hour.
Love you all and miss you lots.
Stay in touch.
xoxo
