Off exploring ORANA WILDLIFE PARK. ORANA is New Zealand only open range zoo, loverly spacious surroundings, where they specialises in displaying endangered native species and animals from all over the world. Orana's tranquil setting spans 80 hectares and is home to over 400 animals from 70 different species. we had a greatday here at Orana it is so open and you can feel the freedom.
We jumped on the safari shuttle which was a 25min ride around with informative commentary, then we went and fed the giraffes. This was a fun thing to do, we were all given small branches that you held high and the giraffes striped it of leaves. My one took the lot! Their 45cm tongue was so strong.
Next we saw the Kiwi's. There were two of them which we saw being fed. We were also shown the size of their eggs which were almost the size of an Ostrich egg! Wow!
There was a lovely pride of lions whcih we also caught being fed. There was a truck with a cage of people on the back who had paid for the extra experience, to feed the lions. The lions climbed all aver the cage on the truck. What a great experience that must of been. We had a great view from outside and we stayed for a while watching the lions as they were very playful and happy.
After lunch, and a walk around the farm, we went over to see the White Rhino being fed, you can get so close to the animals here and you could here the gibbons making a racket across the park.
Last of all, we met the Gorillas. There are 3 of them:
Fataki -the largest one weighing over 190kg. He is a Silverback and has the strength of 11 men. He was born 24/05/2003.
Fuzu - He was born 08/12/2007
Mahali - He was born 18/08/2008 (Fuzu and Mahali are half brothers)
All of the gorillas here were born at Toronga Zoo, Sydney. They were very entertaining, chestbeating and chasing one another. The camera was clicking away. These gorillas are NZ's first and only gorillas and arrived 30/04/2015.
We were the last car in the car park to leave! xxxx
