I've made it!
Well of course i have but believe me if you'd have seen me on Sunday before i left you would know why i say that....
I spent the whole of the day being sick literally every 5 minutes and to make matters worse i developed the reddest rash ever on my face of all places! it was that bad, that at 9.30pm i had my travel insurance documents out seeing what i had to do to cancel my flight.
BUT luckily following a few hours sleep i was ok and made it to the airport in one piece. Martini was with me and he was excited about seeing the planes but Terminal 3 was covered in scaffolding and we'd only seen the top of a planes tail by the time it came for him to push me through the gates.
Somewhere deep down i was excited about going but scared at the same time and my stomach wrecked because i'd pulled all my stomach muscles from being sick so many times the day before. I was also exhausted and couldn't wait to sleep on the plane.
The time came for Martini to push me through the gates and i just kept thinking to myself i hope i'm making the right decision doing this and once he'd prissed my fingers from the barriers and carried me to the security desk i was stuck in and there was no going back anyway.
Once inside I didn't even have a look around the duty free area i went straight to Boots and bought 4 litres of water to try and rehydrate my body again. I then walked to the check in desk and watched them load the luggage on my plane or the plane i thought it was (which turned out to be the wrong plane in the end anyway).
Talking of luggage my ability to travel light failed me once again..As i had two suitcases following the advice of Simoney Ellis.... The first one weighed 27 and the second one weighed 16 so 43 pounds is a lot for me because i've never gone over 38 before but as i say we'll blame Simoney for that bit of advice. I personally think its fab because i've got everything with me and i won't need to buy anything for a while now.
The flight itself was non eventful although i did panic at one stage when i woke up to find the pilot stood infront of the seats in front of me. I thought i was dreaming and wanted to scream at him "get back in your bloody pit and fly your plane" well that was until i heard him say he'd left a trainee pilot in charge. The bloody cheek of him... leaving a trainee in charge of the piggin plane...i'd paid good money to be flown by a professional but he didn't stay long and it was a bloody good job because i was ready for frog marching him back to his seat.
I did have a little look at the first class seating area and was very impressed by the proper bar they had built on the plane. However as usual i tried to get to the 1st class toilets and that proved tricky...as the doorway was guarded by a pit ball terrior! Everytime i tried to dash through those curtains she asked me where i was going! Well as far as i could see there were three possible answers to this question...1. I'm going to rob all the goodies out of your posh toilets. 2. I'm going to tell the pilot NEVER to leave his pit again or 3. Say oophs i got lost again...ha ha
There was no getting past her and in the end i gave up and watched 3 love films, read the rough guide to LA via an e book and played sudoku until my brain hurt.... BUT didn't sleep that much so that was when i realised i must've been a little excited after all.
The flight was long but we eventually landed at 3.10pm some 12 hours later having flown over Greenland which was frozen and i saw lots of icebergs and The grand canyon and Las vegas which was cool because it literally is just a strip of buildings in the desert.
On arrival at in LA i had to wait hours to clear customs and they took our picture and finger printed us..talk about invasion of privacy... and then we waited what seemed like ages for our bags before leaving the airport to find my transfer man.
The man that picked me up was fab and gave me a guided tour of LA whilst dropping others off. I was so jealous when we dropped posh people off at the Beverly Wiltshire Hotel but i had high expectations for the Orbit Hostel... NOT
Whilst driving around i saw Rodeo drive and the avenue of stars which was very exciting but of course the fact that i hadn't slept for nearly a day was kicking in and all i wanted was a hot shower, food and bed.
The hostel was and still is s*** and i swear if i get my hands on the bloke that booked it for me i'll go for him. The brochure looks great and so it did 10 years ago but now its drab and there is nothing special about it.
To top it off the bloody place doesn't even have a lift so i had to lug 47 pounds of crap up 2 flights of stairs and i blame Simoney Ellis of course...ha. The room i'm in is very basic but clean and i suppose that's all that matters but i wouldn't recommend it to anyone...
Anyway i had a shower and changed and went for a walk to find some food. Now normally you can find fast food everywhere in LA but i swear all i could find was a chinese and the meal i had could have fed a family of 4 easily! I hate leaving food but even this beat me... following the food i walked home and it was now 8pm and i went back up to my room and fell asleep on my bed until my other rooms mates came back.
So i'm in bed fast asleep and my room mates came back at about 11pm and tried to persuade me to go clubbing with them because its Hollywood baby and this city never sleeps. I declined their kind offer and we ended up spending the next 3 hours talking about Hollywood.
There are two girls and one bloke in my room but only one of the girls can communicate with the bloke because he's German and doesn't speak a word of English...Wow how brave is that to travel without being able to speak English! Anyway one of the girls is called Susan and she is working in a book store whilst trying to be an actor or a magazine editior. Susan is kinda mad and we get on like a house of fire. The first thing she asked me was if i wanted to help her give out Condoms and Cookies to promote this film she is acting in. So tomorrow night i'm going to be giving out condoms and cookies to the crazy people of LA whilst she promotes the film and someone else takes photos of people with the condoms and cookies!
The other girl is Dutch and called Marie-Anna, she's 28 and wants to be an actor!!!! I swear everyone i've spoken to or listened to since i've been here is or wants to be an actor. However according to my e book on the plane Hollywood is famous for its Porn acting rather than traditional acting now. But Marie assures me she does nomal acting but she is pretty enought to do porn acting if she chose too or ever ran out of money.
So Susan, Marie and German Mute Boy make up the residence of Number 21 in the Orbit hell hole. The girls have been so helpful and have told me all the cool things to do which is a massive help and even mute boy bought me a blanket this morning because it was freezing so i think i'm going to settle in nicely here.
Some of the stories the girls told me shocked the hell out of me. It would appear that people are desperate to become actors and literally do anything to "make it" Susan trawls through paper after paper looking for casting opportunities and then spends all day going for auditions. Likewise Marie pays for an acting coach to train here whilst she is out of work and the whole thing astonishes me as they have to battle with everyone else for the same dream. Marie is studying Stanisomething today but i'm sure its just American slang for another s** position!
Anyway following our chat i slept like a baby until about 9am and then chatted somemore to the girls about what i'd got planned for the day. I was still exhausted so planned on just going for a wander to get my bearings.
