Going for a bike ride now has a whole new meaning. Here, cars are replaced by bikes and bikes always have the right of way. Today I finally found the courage to hit the road and bike to class. Luckily I didn't fall off, get hit by a bus or get lost. My classes are on the other side of the city, so it is a good 25 minute bike ride. It is beautiful and great way to start the day. My favorite part is riding through this park filled with children and families ice skating on ponds and canals. I am a little nervous for next week when all the students come back. Apparently you have to leave early for bike "rush hour" and there are occasional accidents. I also bought a second lock today because bikes get stolen daily. Some people have lost 4 bikes in 6 months! Let's hope my little red bike lasts until July. We were told to never buy a bike for under 10 euros because it is a stolen bike being sold by a "junkie" and it is illegal! Luckily I bought mine for 45 euros from a girl from Spain who was leaving. I am thrilled to see all the places my little bike can take me : )
