On sunday we traveled from Nice to Cinque Terre, Italy. It was a long hot day, 5 hours, two trains, NO AC. Apperently their is a large difference between French trains and Italian trains. They are dirtier, slower and much hotter! Luckily I had take my new motion sickness medication and was in zombie state for the adventure. Scott however was uncomforable the whole way. Yuck. we arrived late in the afternoon to a small town called La Spetzia, after enjoyng ac for a bit we did a little laundry (it cost about 20 euros for 2 loads, no wonder the Italians all hang their clothes on the lines.) Then we enjoyed our first Italian dinner with the group. It was an awesome dinner and cheap too, Scotts pizza only cost 3.5 euros. Wow.
Yesterday was another amazing day. we woke up early to try and beat the heat, took the train 30 minutes to our first Cinque terre town. Cinque Terre are five small towns all built into the side of mountains which overlook the ocean. You can only travel to them via train or they are connected by hiking trails. The hikes are different levels between each city, the first two are very intense, loads of steps and hills. They are only about two miles apart but it took about two hours per city. We hiked all day from 8:30 to 4:00. (Lee and Kerry did you two hike also?) It was beautiful. I can not describe it in words but have taken loads of pics. (As soon as we can load them we will) Unfortunately we only hiked 4 of th 5 trails. The trail from the third city to the fourth tired us out for the day, unlike the first two which had been very intense but covered by trees, the third trail was along the ocean and in the direct sun. In 85° weather and 55% humidity it was no longer fun. Instead we enjoyed a beer and took the train back to our hotel for nap time.
Today we road the trains to Florence with a stop at the famous leaning tower of Pisa. It was a neat building to see in person, as pictures do not do it justice. Soon we will be off to see the David. (Even though I told Scott I do not need to go as I see him almost everday at Caesars. hahahah) Then dinner with the group. we are going to the tour guides most favorite restaurant in the world, it should be great! tomorrow we are going to do a little shopping as we have not purchased anything because we did not want to lug it around. Love to all! xoxox
