(We both posted a blog today, so make sure you read Michelles too!!!)
The food on this trip has all been amazing, however Cinque Terre really stood out because of the foods I dont usually like being amazing.
It started with a Greek sandwich when we first arrived in La Spezia. It was the sort with the meat that they shave off the rotating clyinder of.... tzatziki sauce, fries, and all sorts of other Greek things. Normally not my style, but this thing was amazing. Full of flavor and juice- After my first bite, I did not want to return it to Michelle.
At dinner that night I lost my sense of adventure and order Gnocci in tomato sauce and a Margherita pizza. Both we delicious, but expected to be. Michelle was the one going for it that night and ordered what was on the menu as "grilled fish" and she got just that. They had caught some sort of a white fish, gut it, scraped some scales off and grilled it. The presentation was the whole fish (head and tail included) and a wedge of lemon. After a moment of the fish on the table the server offered to debone it for her. He did so with the percision of a sergeon. It turned out to be quite delightful.
The next day during our long hike we stopped for bruschetta, one with moz. and tomatos. the other with pesto. Pesto is a food item I will eat but could live without.... until now. It was so fresh, the flavors so powerful. They dont make it like that back home.. It was great. Along with the bruschetta, I found myself snacking on a bowl of olives they had given us. I didnt hate them......
Now it is off to see what else I can stick in my belly. First we are going to see some statue of a tall guy named David. I guess one of the Mutant turtles had something to do with it!?!?
