Wagga - Sydney - Brisbane
After a delayed start in Wagga all other flights were on time & went smoothly.
Didn't have to wait very long before Mum & Moray joined me at the Brisbane airport, was great to see them & catch up- can't quite believe that the day has finally arrived!
Mum looked gorgeous in a little pink hat adorned with flowers & a lovely pink scarf with butterfly clasp- totally looked the part of 'seasoned millionaire traveller' (ha ha)
Our flight to Singapore was smooth & very comfortable - being able to stretch out on reclining chairs was fantastic!
Arrived at Changi airport early at 5.20am. Booked into VIP lounge & had a wonderful shower & some food.
Tuesday 12th
Boarded our A380 @ 8.35am, were amazed at the HUGE seats & the leg room we had but then we realized that those huge seats turned into flat beds!
What luxury!! We are able to really stretch out with pillows & blanket & get quality sleep. Gave brekky a miss in favour of a snooze.
When it came to meal times, the stewardess sets your table complete with tablecloth, glassware & crockery! The menu gives a choice of 2 entrees, 4 mains & 2 desserts with wines, beers & soft drinks. Started with an appetizer of chicken satay, an entree of asparagus terrine w asparagus, salad & vinaigrette and main was beef cheek, potatoes, baby carrots & gravy (yum!) Dessert was choc & peanut butter ice-cream w choc sauce. Of course a couple of glasses of red wine topped it all off nicely!! But just as I thought it was over they brought around a trolley of fruit & cheese!
Managed to get some hours of good sleep & was able to do some stretches in the wide aisles. Took in 2 movies - "Gone" & "Albert Knobbs".
We finally arrived at Heathrow at 3.25pm. By the time we got thru immigration & customs it was only 4.30 so we had a coffee while we waited for the shuttle bus to take us to our hotel.
Got to Burns Hotel - Kensington after 7pm, feeling a little tired. The hotel is not the biggest & the best but it has character!! We took the little old 1 metre square lift to our rooms- mum's is down in the basement with her window opening to BELOW street level. Moray & I are on level 4 with 2 single beds & a creaky wardrobe but the window opens onto a park.
Went to bed without dinner at 8pm.
Wednesday 13th
Had a good sleep until 4.20am, was a good time to call home. We made a cuppa & talked until 6.30 then got ready for brekky.
Walked a few blocks to catch hop-on hop-off bus, when we finally worked out where exactly it left from (!!!) we sat on top & enjoyed the commentary & tour.
Moray & I went to Madam Tussauds wax museum & Mum had a walk around the area. The wax museum was quite good especially the taxi ride around 'the spirit of London' display. (funny story here - will tell later) After a burger & smoothie for lunch we headed to The London Eye - Mum & I went up while Moray looked around. The it was back on the bus & back to the hotel. Might go check out the bar downstairs now!
Thursday 14th
Mum was sick last night so Moray & I had a gin & tonic at the bar along with a tasteless snack.
Woke at 4 am again, both of us had headaches so after popping some pills went back to bed until the phone woke us up at 7am (lovely to hear from you M)
Mum was still sick this morning, think she may have picked up a bug. So armed with my essential oils kit & Moray's massage skills we went down to the basement to try to make Mum more comfortable. She was not well enough to come out with us today deciding instead to get some rest.
Moray & I caught the bus again around to the river cruise. 2 long windy hours later ( traffic was bad) we finally got to the pier, where we grabbed some chicken skewers from a stall before getting on cruise boat. This took us down to Tower of London & a guide kept us entertained with his wonderful sense of humour.
We spent about an hour & half looking around Tower of London- very interesting!
Caught a taxi back to hotel, quickly showered & changed & after checking in on Mum headed putti dinner & show.
Poor Mum was still not well, I ordered a cup of peppermint tea for her & she started to look a little brighter but not well enough to come out with us. So we were feeling bad going out without her again but she needs to get well.
Dinner at the Ruben Hotel "old Masters Carvery & Grill" was wonderful with a Carvery buffet - starters of smoked fish & salad, soup, main was choice of roast pork or roast beef rib with vegs & Yorkshire pudding & gravy. Sweets we're choice of lots of yummy things.
After dinner we walked to the Apollo Theatre to take in "Wicked", which was fantastic! Afterwards we were the first to walk out onto the street & straight into a taxi!
Friday 15th
Mum is much better today, she managed a small brekky so we are happy!
We check out of our luxurious hotel(??)
& make our way to 'gay Paris'.
Left St Pancras station at precisely 1.31pm, had a fast & smooth journey to Paris arriving at 4.45pm. Lunch was served on the train with wine, tea & coffee.
The queue for taxi was long & taxi ride was even longer but finally arrived at Citadines Prestige Les Halle's hotel. It is a vast improvement on Our last hotel- This time we have a quite modern apartment- lovely!
