My first full day in Santa Marta was a total bust. It was so hot that I couldn't even go into the water because it wasn't even refreshing. I managed not to melt somehow and booked a scuba dive for the next day.
The next day Erick went diving with me in Taganga. I had been blowing my balloons the night before and in the morning which I had been told would help me to compensate better and it worked! The first dive was really nice with great visibility and we saw a really skinny spider type crab. We went to a max of 18m. We had a nice rest on the beach w/ tuna sandwiches and watermelon then went for dive 2. It was only a max of 12m and the visibility wasn't as clear but my oxygen lasted for almost an hour and in the last 15 minutes we saw a turtle!! I was soooooo happy! My scuba dream came true! After the dive we took a bus to Tayrona park, buying some mamoncillo (limoncillo in DR) for a snack along the way. Once in the park entrance we did the 9 rocks walk. The forest was beautiful and the lookout was amazing despite the heat, humidity and sweatfest. We then had to walk another 45min. to the actual park. We had a nice relaxing dinner and took a night walk along the beach.
The next morning we walked to el Cabo beach in Tayrona Park, ate some great chocolate bread there, then took the long uphill walk on top of rocks up to el Pueblito. The scenery was beautiful and Erick was fascinated by all of the holes and crevices, wanting to check them out! In the stream there were little flecks of something that looked like gold - but no such luck! When we finally got to the Pueblito it wasn't very much - only a couple of raised platforms of rocks and grass. It was a nice walk there and back though and definitely worth it. We got back to Cabo for lunch then went in the water for only about 5-10min at the beach and had to head back racing against the clock before nightfall. We ended up walking along the trail in the almost dark anyways then got a motorcycle ride out of the park.
