Diana made her trip w/ me coincide w/ the NJ Firehouse Tango group Buenos Aires trip so I got to meet them and take my first Tango lesson and dance at 2 milongas!(Tango dances)It was very difficult at first but then I felt very excited when I was actually able to dance it.Of course it was w/ sympathetic leads (teachers) but it was still great!I was even able to dance a Tango in the street in San Telmo w/ some old man a few days later!
During my second trip to Buenos Aires, besides the Tango stuff I managed to see the end of a shoe workers demonstration during which they were complaining about their low salaries and the increase of the value of the US$.We also saw the not so great botanical garden and the much prettier Japanese garden w/ huge jumping catlike fish. While in Palermo we also saw the MALBA museum and it was great. There were some wonderful Botero, Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo paintings as well as a famous LA photographer B&W photos & some cool modern art including moving bendable metal rings.I also got to see the famous tomb of Evita at the Recoleta cemetery. We took a great tour where they told us all about how they removed her body then had to return it etc. There were also a lot of other interesting inhabitants there! They have bovedas, mausoleos, & panteones differing by size, shape & type of inhabitants!
Finally, I revisited San Telmo during the Sunday antique fair and it was quite interesting to say the least!I ate some decent meat (including trying kidney - OK, but not a great aftertaste), did a little bit of shopping, and saw the bears of peace from around the world exhibit in Plaza San Martin. It is making its way around the world - let's hope it makes some difference.I also got to end my trip w/ Diana w/ a visit from Gustavo, the guy from BA who had joined my aunt and I earlier in Laguna Esmeralda. As always, a good time was had by all!
