Day 61-64
For the last few days we have just been getting organised for the next few weeks of madness. We had to get our dive medical so we could do our dive course and Stu handed his notice in at work. On the day he left, his boss bought a cake for him, except they ate it at work so Scarlett missded out! We had our last night out in Cairns with Sebastian (a German guy in our dorm) and Franc (a french guy in our dorm). We went to PJ O'Brian's and watched the Coyote girls.
Day 65
Today we left Cairns on the Oz Experience bus. It's a prepaid bus that takes us down the East coast of Oz. Our bus driver was called Sconezy and he was so funny. The bus was pretty much filled with English people so we had a laugh. We stopped off at a rainforest and did a little walk. There's a plant called the Gympie Gympie that if you touch it fires micro-scopic needles into your skin that is supposed to be more painful than 1000 knives stabbing you so we had to be careful where we trod.
After another drive and a stop for lunch, we stopped at a Croc Farm where some crazy red neck guys fed crocs by hand and we got really really close. There was a big pen with a Cassowary in it which is the most dangerous bird in the world, it's the size of an Ostritch. So one of the crazy guys got in there with it! When he whistled and ran off, it chased him and he had to climb over an 8ft fence. We got to feed kangaroo's again but they seemed bored of been fed and pretty much ignored us! There were two pools full of crocodiles waiting un til they were big enough to be slaughtered. It was so crammed and they were all on top of each other, it was so disguisting... and it stank! To finish off the tour, we got to hold snakes, lizards and a cockatoo which was pretty cool.
We continued our journey on the bus in which we were travelling to Magnetic Island. Seven loud guys from Essex with no tops on got on and they just looked like idiots but they turned out to be so funny! We all played charades and 20 questions to pass the time. Eventually we got on the ferry to Magnetic Island where we then had to get on a bus to our hostel, Base. As we had booked a 4 day dive course, it was $299 for 4 nights accomodation in a camp-o-tel and for the course. A camp-o-tel is a tent about a foot from the ground that is big enough to stand up in and contained two camp beds. Despite the walk from the bathroom, it wasn't too bad as it was private and made a change from the usual 6 bed dorm.
We then went to join the group we'd met on the bus after making some 2 minute noodles for dinner, very nutritous! We played pool and drank yager bombs (I can't spell it so I'm writing it how it's said). We couldn't get too drunk though as we started our dive course at 9 the next morning!
