Day 76 Fraser Island
We had to get up at 6:30 and watch an amazing dvd about the rules on Fraiser Island...was not good. We then met the group, there were 10 of us, us 2 English, 2 German guys, 2 Scottish guys, a Canadian couple and 2 German girls. We packed the 4x4 and drove to the hire place to hire sleeping bags and go over more rules. We were warned that the dingo's were dangerous and if we fed them we'd get fined hunderds. We also would get fined for leaving food on the ground, driving in salt water, driving at certain times, sitting on the car etc... So we finally got on the ferry, there were only 4 people in our car that can drive because you have to be over 21 and none of them wer ecomfortable with it. We had a very dodgy start and when we got off the ferry on Fraser Island, a massive truck nearly crashed into the back of us!! We drove down a dirt track, if you can call it a track. Everyone was a bit nervous because we were flying all over the place but it was funny. We eventually got to a gorgeous lake with pure white sand. It was a cloudy day so we didn't go for a swim. We had some sandwiches and then headed to the next destination. We had a scedule to follow and certain times we could drive on the beach. We followed a trial through the rainforest which is the only one in the world that grows from sand, thought I'd share that with you. We came to a lake that was sooo clear and deserted. We could see fresh water turtles poking their heads up and we found bits off dead crabs that the dingos had caught. We then headed for the campsite we were told to stay at and found a descent spot. We weren't allowed a camp fire and it was freezing! We made pasta and sauce on a stove and some salad and got a biscuit each for dessert wooo! We ended up eating in pitch black, we really couldn't see a thing and had to hold torches. We shared a 4 litre box of goon, the 2 German guys had 5 4 litre boxes of goon! If we haven't yet explained to you what goon is, it's really cheap wine, usually 5pound for 4 litres in a box. It's called goon because it's got so much crap in it, it has on the box that may contain traces of fish and eggs! So we played ring of fire and drank through the goon. We saw a possum crawling around, it was so cute. We also got German lessons off the Germans. The two German girls don't drink though and asked us why we did it, we just thought they were boring. We went to bed at a shocking 9 o'clock because the sun starts setting at 5:30 which is when you start drinking and it just gets so cold and so dark you have to give up and get into the uncomfortable tent.
