Day 74 Kroombit
Today was a very random but amazing day. We were heading down to Rainbow Beach but as it is so far away, we had to take a compulsary stop in Kroombit, AKA the middle of nowhere. We weren't happy about the stop as we had never been told when we paid the 180pound for the bus pass. The stop in Kroombit was at a cattle station so we had to pay 20odd pound for a night stay there and tea and breakfast so we were pissed off about doshing out again. However...it was so much fun!
We got on the bus from Airlie Beach at 7 in the morning to find that Sconzey was driving it, the guy we had the first time. ON our way we stopped to have a Subway breakfast about 10ish and then play bowls...it was pretty funny. We all put a dollar in and whoever won got the lot, Scarlett came 4th!! Stu came about 7th. An old Thai woman was given Scarlett tactics, yes there are tactics when it comes to lawn bowls! It was also Aussie mother's day so all the mums that bowl were gathering for lunch...
When we finally arrived to the cattle station, it was about 6:30 and it was dark. Scarlett braved a shower in the dodgy shower rooms and found green frogs watching her haha! We then all ate tea at big wooden tables outside and qued up for a serving of a roast dinner (not as good a good old family one though). The people who work on the cattle ranch are either red necks or cowboys, it really is in the middle of nowhere. We had a go of whip cracking after tea. It looks so easy but it isn't. You have to have the right technique and we managed to do it in the end. That was a laugh. There was another Oz Experince bus there that were travelling up North and as it was a games night, it was battle of the buses. We first rode the mechanical bull which was sooo funny! Stu lasted about 7 seconds but Scarlett was the longest girl to stay on the bull!! Then we played musical chairs with a twist and a few other crazy games. Some people went to bed and we carried on drinking playing a few drinking games and the cardboard box game. We saw something moving in the long grass and the red neck guys told us it was dingos (a native animal, kind of like a dog/fox but they're quite dangerous). But they were just dogs which Scarlett ended up calling over.
Day 75
This morning started with a lovely hangover at 6:30. Girls and boys slept in seperate dorms and there were 6 girls and 6 boys so it worked out quite well. For $20, Scarlett went horse riding which was soooo good!! We were told the basics to riding a horse and Scarlett was given a horse called Jaye who was an angel! He did everything she wanted and behaved the best out of all the horses. We walked about 15minutes and came to a HUGE field (well there wasn't much grass) full of goats. There were 200-300 goats and our job was to gather as many as we could into a fenced ring using the horse. It wasn't as hard as it seemed but a horse stood on a goats leg and it started crying and limping.
We went and joined the rest of the group and was taught how to lassoo. That was quite hard. We praticed on a cow skull and only a few of us managed to grab it. We then had a session of goat mustering. It looked really cruel at first but it didn't bother goats too much so we had a go. We teamed up with a guy called Peter from Denmark and we had to catch the goat using the rope and lassoo technique which peter had mastered. But we if we hadn't caught it within a minute we caught it by hand, turned it on it's side, and pretended to brand it (that was Scarlett's job, the easy part). We won!!
For $10 Stu got five bullets and had a go at clay pigeon shooting which he hit all five. Then we all got in the circle and a guy spun a bottle in the middle. We had no idea what was goin to happen so we went along with it. The bottle stopped in between us and a cattle prod (an electric shock thing) containing 11,000 volts was put inbetween us and we had to hold an end each and pass the current round the circle. Scarlett chickened out and watched everybody jump, it was pretty funny. Stu said it felt tingly and weird in his arms. Then a guy called Ed got probed on his bare arse which left red marks haha!
We then got back on the bus for a long journey to Rainbow beach. We stopped for chicken and chips and then at Hervey Bay to drop people off but by the time we got there it was 6ish. We checked into out hostel, Fraisers on Rainbow and then went to our 8 bed dorm. The next day we were going on a tour to Fraiser island which is self driven in a 4 wheel drive. We met two German girls in our dorm who are doing the tour with us and they had done the food shopping with the other people in our group but we'd missed out as we got there too late. So after a few calls home and showers we went to bed ready for a 6:30 start the next day...
