Saz and Dave's travels
Today we decided to do the tourist thing and visit some of the main attractions of Nha Trang. Sharing a taxi with Zac we set off for the white buddah and the Pagoda at the other end of town. It was very very hot today and climbing the steps up to the buddah we were all hoping it would be worth it! It was. There were two big buddahs - one lying on it's side (not seen this kind before!) and an enormous white one which was impressive. The best thing was probably the view that we got of the city and the surrounding mountains (nice breeze up there too!). The whole time we were walking round a little girl of about 6 or 7 was holding our hands even though she couldn't speak a word of English. We should have realised she wanted something because when we walked past her mothers stall selling drinks she tried everything to get us to buy one and when we wouldn't she got quite stroppy!
At the bottom Zac got a motorbike back to the hotel (wisely) and me and Dave decided (very unwisely) to go and have a look at the market. It was a trek! It took about 45 minutes to walk there in the heat and when we got there it was pretty rubbish - loads of dusty stalls with fading clothes and tacky shoes and stinky dried fish with flies on it. We made the mistake of admitting to one local guy that we were hungry and he led us through the labyrinth of stinky food stalls to a kind of cafe where all they had was a bit of meat and a bit of green stuff. There was no menu and none of them spoke English apart from to tell us the price which was very expensive! It was all a bit awkward and we shuffled out the side door and eventually found our way back to where we started. Feeling a bit tired and hungry we gave in when offered a lift by a nearby cyclo. These things are designed for one person so getting the two of us in was a bit of a squeeze and we really empathised with the poor guy who had to ride us all the way back to our hotel! He seemed ok though and actually went quite fast.
For lunch we got some food near the hotel then went off to the internet to sort out some stuff. We met up with Zac again for tea and Alia and Leo (from the Cambodia trip) at a French style restaurant where you got a bit of free red wine and free bananas with the meal bonus! Later we went for drinks at the frog and bucket bar and pool - girls vs boys (guess who won!).
Ps if you are reading this and there is a picture of an orangutan don't worry we haven't gone strange we are just waiting to put our photos on a CD so we can put a decent picture on!
