Saz and Dave's travels
YO HOMIES !!!!! SARAHS LET ME DO ONE JOURNAL ENTRY OH YEAH !!!!
So, today we decided that it would be a good idea, after lots of pressure from our crazy hotel receptionist, to go on a boat trip to the four islands around Nha Trang. We were advised by some fellas in a pub when Nha Trang was flooded that this was a really good tour and they would feed us lots of food so we decided to skip breakfast, and got up at 8:00am. Unfortunately when we woke up, it was apparent that sun cream would not be required as the weather was pretty dull, however unpeturbed me, Saz, Rochelle and Zac all boarded the bus to the port at 8:45am feeling very tired and hungry.
At the port we boarded the boat (that you can see in the picture) along with about 35 other boat goers, mostly japanese however there were two WEIRD russians (son and daughter, the son had a complete set of gold teeth and the mum was, well, just wierd), a couple of Singaporeans and 3 other english people. Shortly after the boat departed we were treated to an impromtu Karaoke introduction by our tour guide who we named Dan after not getting his actual name 5 times. This was all a little much at about 9am, especially having to accompany Dan, with the help of a megaphone, sing Frere Jaque (however you spell it) in 7 different languages and me having to recreate the front of the boat scene in Titanic, with me being Kate Winslett and Dan singing the Celine Dion song, the name of which escapes me at the moment. All very embarrassing. Shortly after my performance, we arrived at the first island where amongst a lot of jokes in Chinese, Dan advised us that we would have to pay 5000 Vietnamese dong to go for a swim so as the weather still hadnt improved we decided to stay on board the boat and be anti-social by playing cards. By this time Saz had become RAVENOUS, so this led to her asking the cook on another boat if it was possible to buy a baguette, on seeing Sarahs desperate face, the cook happily handed over a free baguette which was nice. We stayed at the first island (on the boat, playing cards) for about 45 minutes the view was very nice and although we couldnt see through the water, by accounts of the people who paid for a swim, there was very nice coral there too.
After another 30 minutes sailing, we arrived at the second island and the site for a HUGE buffet lunch. We had spring rolls, noodle soup, chips and pork, shark steak, squid, noodles, rice and bananas. It was all very nice and me and sarah seemed to eat considerably more than everyone else (getting our moneys worth), especially those throwing up with sea sickness, which was pretty rank.
After dinner, and as there were numerous sea sickness casualties, Dan informed us that we could change boat and stay out at sea while he took the other people on the boat back to shore to recover, so we promptly joined Dan's brother's boat. This was where it started to get really weird, as the first "activity" we played was a game where Dan's brother had to get all the couples to kiss, which one japenese girl found so funny she looked as though she was going to have a hernea. Then he tried to get one of the English girls to kiss him which she was pretty unhappy about, and finally after that it was time to get into the water for the free red wine on the floating bar. I, along with Zac and Rochelle (Sarah didnt fancy getting into the water as she was slightly sun burned, but to be fair she didnt miss out as we all found out) got into the water in the hope that we could improve the tour by drinking as much free wine as possible, however Mulberry wine is propper RANK so after just one glass me and Zac decided to call it a day and head back to the boat to read. Rochelle however seemed to enjoy the free drink and drank mine, Sarahs and Zac's fair shair. The highlight of the free bar though, was the guy who resembled Golom off Lord Of The Rings drinking far too much wine and getting rediculously nailed and had to be restrained, by his wife, from touching up all the girls. It was hillarious and we all struggled to hide our giggling behind our books for the next journey to the third Island. By the time we reached the beach on Island no 3, Golom had passed out, much to the relief of his wife, and we all had to disembark onto a lovely beach, with white sand, plenty of expensive sun loungers, a place where you could parasail, for about a minute, and a volleyball court. We were all invited to have a quick game of volleyball with the English people on the tour so that was pretty cool although the actual court was taken so we had a makeshift court with no net, which was just as well as none of us could actually play volleyball. It was also pretty amusing watching the parasailors falling flat on their face as the boat pulled them into the sea at speed.
We stayed on the beach for half an hour untill Dan returned to pick us up and take us all to the final Island, where you could either visit an aquarium or sit around at the guesthouse. Obviously us budget travellers decided the guesthouse was the better option and decided to carry on the game of cards started on the boat. Very little incident happened there apart from mid-game I decided to lean back on the primary school-esq miniture plastic chair, which promptly buckled under all 14 stone of me and smashed sending me crashing to the ground with an almighty thump (It was a wonder i wasnt stabbed by a flying shard to plastic). Everyone at the guesthouse found that extremely amusing except for me as i tried to suppress the imense stinging pain in my hands.
Shortly after my fall it was time for the tour to end and for us all to go back to the mainland to catch the bus back to the hotel. After a quick swim at the main beach in Nha Trang, Saz and I had to grab a quick shower before meeting Alia and Leo (from our adventures on the Cambodia Basix Trip) who arrived at about 6:30pm.
The remaining six of the intrepid tour all headed out to dinner at a local restaurant, I had tuna in a clay pot with a banana shake and saz had chicken curry with lemon juice which came to the grand sum of $4. We all then headed to Guava bar for a farewell drink with Rochelle before she headed off to Hoi An and to take advantage of the rediculsouly cheap happy hour (bizaarly from 5:30 - 10:30).
