Saz and Dave's travels
Today we got up early as we had booked to do a Thai cookery course for the day. This began with us going to the local market where the teacher, Permpoon Nabnian pointed out all the different foods - rice, egg and glass noodles, different types of aubergine, pineapple and papaya and all the different types of rice. We then got in a truck with the 3 other people from our course - one guy from Spain, a girl from Vancouver (who has since given us her e-mail and invited us to go over and stay!) and a girl from New York. The cookery school was in the countryside and had about 25 different work stations complete with hob and utensils, even though there were only 5 of us!
We learnt how to make tom yam soup, green chicken curry, paneang curry with pumpkin, stir fried noodles with egg, sticky sweet rice with mango and also this veg stir fry where we put water in with the veg and it set the pan on fire sending up about a metre high burst of flame - don't think we'll be doing that one at home!!
At the end we were given a recipe book so we'll have to practice when we get back. It was a really good experience and the food all tasted delicious. As we couldn't eat it all there we finished the rest off for our tea!
This evening we had a nice drink in one of the bars at the side of the river Ping and I bought a 'lacoste' top for about a quid and a lovely silver necklace with a heart for about 3.50. Yes I have finally bought something Joy!!
