The adventures of Sarah & Brian
FINAL DESTINATION
N to the Y to the motherloving C!
Started off with a crazy taxi ride form the airport - speeding and swerving between lanes. Arrived at our immense hostel, biggest in the world apparently, but fairly deserted. We were in a 12 bed dorm but it was never full thankfully 'cos there were very few showers so would have been a bit of a mare.
We were in bed by about 9 every night and up at 7am to roam the streets and see the sights.
We bought a cheap pass which got you in to various museums and galleries, and included going up the Empire State building and a cruise.
After we had checked in we went to Central Park, as it was only a few blocks away and walked all the way to Times Square - eating hot dogs and a pizza pretzel (minging).
Next day we started with a massive breakfast at a diner called EJ's - huge fry ups, could hardly walk afterwards. Managed to waddle to the Museum of Natural History where we walked it off for 5 hours. Lots of dinosaurs and dead animals in glass displays and a mind boggling display about the universe.
Then we went on another monumental walk round ending at the Empire State Building shortly before sunset. After 2 very fast lifts we made it to the scarily high observation deck where we listened to an audio tour starring Tony the taxi driver explaining what we could see - v good.
The following day we went on the 2 hour Circle Line cruise, went past the Statue of Liberty and under the Brooklyn Bridge. Then went to the museum of modern art. Some reet gooduns, like Picasso's and Van Gogh along with some nutty stuff.
Next day went to the Guggenheim museum. Impressive building, but only saw the inside 'cos they had scaffolding all over the outside. Got the Subway to Brooklyn Bridge and walked over (not all the way though 'cos there's nothing to see on the other side). Treated ourselves to a meal at Red Lobster - had a lobster pizza and even an acoholic beverage.
Our last day was spent souvenir shopping, with a stop off at Times Square for our second helping of Chinese buffet.
Got drunk on the plane on the way back to drown our sorrows, and here we are! NUTS
