Headed up to Treble Cone today ( known as TC to the locals ) . The day did not look very appealing - most fair weather skiers wouldn't have bothered ! But we headed up anyway.
The car park at TC was littered with Kea - big beaked birds with green and orange wings that scour the car parks looking for bits to nibble at.
$14million recently invested in the base area has produced a stylish cafe / restaurant serving good coffees ! That was the first stop then !
Two lifts here give access to 3 bowls. Unfortunately the rain here recently though had closed 2 of the bowls and only 1 area available to ski. The runs here are more challenging and longer than the other areas skiied - shame we couldn't see anything !
On the chairlift we rode through the pea soup and broke through the clouds the other side into glorious sunshine. Probably the most interesting days skiing had in a long time. The top third - lovely piste skiing and bright sunlight, then into the pea soup, mushy snow and flat light for the bottom third - just weird. No complaints from the boys though .. and in fact despite not being able to ski the natural half pipes, Tane insisted on skiing til the very last lift - go boy !
Fingers crossed for the weather and heliskiing tomorrow ..
