Rain !
Being hardy skiers we set up the hill despite the gloomy forecast. We parked our car in the lower car park and were picked up the cattle truck to take us the Cardrona base. We were all squashed in like sheep as it sleeted and we got wetter and wetter - what the heck were we doing ???
We soldiered on though and thoroughly tested out the waterproofness of our gear - not very ! We did ski some lovely fresh wet tracks though !
Good things come to those who persevere though .. and after the longest hot chocolate stop ever and time to wring out the gloves, the sun came out and we could enjoy the Cardrona experience.
The Burton Big Air Open was on. Some pretty big jumps and pipes set up and lots of low crotch hanging dudes. Jake and Tane in heaven - couldn't get them away. Great views of Queenstown in the background. We skied most of the blue and greens and slipped in a couple of blacks too. 3 lifts here - a 6 pax high speed and 2 x 4 man - accessing 3 different ski areas. Some fun skiing here for families and two large terrain parks. Lots of rock jumping potential too - our dare devil Jake "Bertie" went in search.
A good day had by all and time for a quick apres drink in the "Classic" Cardrona hotel where a outside roaring fire greeted us as well as several vats of mulled wine.
Bring on more skiing ..
