Every so often it feels like time is running away and that I need to make sure I have seen everything, so I got up this morning and decided to get the bus into Beijing. Once there I headed for Jing Shan Park, and found myself walking past the National Theatre and Bei Hai Park on route. Jing Shan Park was lovely but I wish the day was clearer. There were 5 pavilions spread over a hill, which afford the most amazing views of the Forbidden City (which it used to be a part of) and Beijing but which were slightly hidden in todays weather. There is also a tree marking the spot where the last Ming Emperor Chongzhen hung himself when rebel troops invaded Beijing in 1644. After a quick look around the park, I walked to the National Art Museum of China. This was okay - I don't know if I missed some of it, but it's standing exhibitions didn't seem particuarly impressive. What I did like was an exhibition from a visiting artist called Pan Jiun. He had a number of oil on canvus works which just really seemed to stand out. After this I headed to Wangfujing Street to see St Joseph's church - allegedly the oldest Catholic church in Beijing but unfortuately it is only open in the mornings and so I couldn't go in. Came back to Huairou and met Hannah for dinner at the Korean restaurant then went to the internet cafe.
