The start of the weekend!!! Actually, it's not really, but I don't have any lessons on a Friday and so I don't need to go in. So this morning I decided to go and sort out a Chinese sim card for my phone. I started off in the market thinking this would be cheaper, but after much gesturing, pointing and attempted speaking of Mandarin, I decided that a department store may have someone who could met me half way on the language barrier. This worked to a certain extent, but I still didn't feel I had enough information to fully make my purchase, and went back to the hotel empty handed! After lunch I admitted defeat and went into school to ask one of the English teachers to help me out - which they did. Hannah came back from school this afternoon with the news that we are not moving this weekend - apparantly the apartment they had is not suitable, and a better one which they have found will not be ready for another 5 days.... This evening we decided to go and check out 'Bar Street' which we'd been told was the best place around here to go for drinks. We got in a taxi and drove for about 10 minutes to a deserted piece of land with a Nissan Micra at the entrance with a big bow on it and a spotlight! Walking through the entrance, we came across this small row of buildings which looked just like a film set given that they were nearly all closed up! There were 2 'cafes' open when we could get beer, a KTV (karaoke) bar which I saw no one enter all night and 'Disco 9'!! We had a couple of beers in one of the cafes, then decided we should try out the Disco. It was amazing! You really couldn't match the outside which looked like something from the 40's to what was inside - it was really good, and as well as that we were treated as local celebraties! Once inside, we had the club owners sister, Sophie, come over to us and invite us to join her party for drinks. They had a singer and a magician entertaining everyone and then it dancing until the early hours.
