Went for a walk this morning to try and find the mountains! We can see them all around us but have never found a way to walk up them. Today was the same as all the other efforts - they are like rainbows - you can see them but as you get near you lose all sight of them! Meet Hannah for lunch and as it was a nice day we got some lunch from the supermarket and took it to the park to each. As we were sitting there, I noticed a big sign on the top of the building saying 'Fitness Centre'. I have been looking for a gym for several weeks and can't believe I haven't noticed it before! Anyway, I went to investigate and found a really dingy stairwell leading up to an amazing Western style gym. It was lovely - all new equipment, a room for classes and a spinning room. We got a guided tour from someone who spoke limited English and even the changing rooms were nice and clean - it may be worth joining just to use those rather than my bathroom! I got some prices from them which were quite high considering this is Huairou, but I think I will probably join up when I get back from my trip next week. Spent the afternoon making board games for the private lesson we had this evening. During the lesson we had a knock on the door and when I opened it, an official looking woman barged in. I tried to ask her what she wanted, but she completely ignored me and went straight into the kitchen - obviously I wasn't going to follow her in there! Anyway, she wouldn't even try to talk to Hannah or myself but did then start talking to the boys who managed to tell us that she wanted 31 yuan from us. I'm still not really sure what it was for, but I think she was reading the gas meter and the money was to pay the bill. After the lesson we meet with Sophie (Chinese friend) who took us to a club Da Tang which was only 5 minutes from where we live. I've seen the building before, but thought it was only KTV, so this is a real find. There's not much dancing, it's mainly a show of singing and sketches and although we couldn't understand what they were saying it was still quite entertaining to watch. Particuarly the drag artist - the Chinese people are often so petit that they can do that really well! Sophie's boyfriend is apparantly the owner (not sure why she has never mentioned it before!) so we didn't buy drinks all night, and our self imposed midnight curfew went right out of the window!
