Sarah J's Fully Sick Travel Page
Hello from London!
Well after a long flight from Singapore I finally made it here! After checking into my hostel I made my way through Hyde Park, and saw some squirrels on the way! But every time I pulled out the camera, they ran away! I went past Kensington Palace and made my way to the Museum of Natural history, which was great...a highlight would have to be the 1300 year old Sequoia tree and the building itself was beautiful. I then headed to the Victoria and Albert museum and saw plaster casts of some awesome European renaissance art, then ducked into the science museum but didn't stay long as there was a miillion kids around.
As I made my way back through Hyde Park I had to take my jacket off as it was getting quite warm, my guess is it was around 20 degrees...it really was a nice day.
I went back to the hostel for a "Nanna nap" as I was very jet lagged, and ended up meeting 3 people from the central coast and a guy from Newcastle staying in my room...small world. I then walked to Buckingham palace with my 3 new central coast friends, the palace looks better on TV, there were a few guards but they wern't even in red!
On Tuesday I decided to go to the Kew Botanical gardens in Surrey, but after jumping on the tube to a near-by station I found out the line was down, which would make it impossible for me to get there. So I went over to Piccadilly instead, and managed to get myself a ticket for Mary Poppins on Saturday night. I then went on one of those Original bus tours that takes you to all the sights of London, and lets you jump on and off when you want to. I got off at Westminster abbey and had a sticky beak around...I saw some really cool stuff, like the 12th century coronation chair from Scotland that every monarch (except 2) was coronated on, I saw Mary, Queen of Scot's tomb, and Geoffry Chaucer's tomb.
I then headed to St Paul's cathedral, which was built by Sir Christopher Wren and took him over 30 years. It has the 2nd largest dome in the world (the 1st being in Rome).
It only reached 8 degrees on Tuesday...and with the wind it felt alot less, so I had a few hot chocolates to warm me up. But it really isn't that bad if your wearing jeans, boots, a singlet, shirt, fleecy jacket, ski jacket and scarf like I was.
One thing I definately miss about home would have to be the food, there is a serious lack of good food over here...and it's very expensive. Juice is almost non-existant, which sucks because it's all I used to drink. We have it so good in Australia. I can't wait to get to europe where the food is much better.
Hope everyone is well back home!
