Well Im pretty rubbish at this blog thing as I have now been away exactly a month (cant believe its a month) and I have only done this thing once. Last time I wrote we were in Arequipa which seemes like so long ago.
So we made it to Machu Picchu which was absolutely amazing. We had to go to Aguas Calientes the day before and then got up at 5,30am to get to Machu Picchu to see the sunrise, but the early start was well worth it. To be honest I don't really know what to say about Machu Picchu as there are really no words to describe it. It was so peaceful and serene seeing the sunrise there and you have to see it for itself as even photo's don't do it justice.
After seeing Machu Picchu we were about done in Peru so it was time to move onto Rio for a little less culture and a bit more partying. First we had to get back to Lima which meant a 24 hour bus journey from Cusco (the longest yet), it was not good. We spent a night in Lima before our flight to Rio which was delayed by 2 hours -we haven't had a flight on time yet.
On Saturday 28th April we made it to Rio, where we were meant to spending 4 nights but actually spent the next 9 days! Once your there its so hard to leave. The city is so relaxed and you just get caught up in the eating, drinking and beach - yes its a hard life this travelling. We did do a bit of sightseeing though. We went to The Christ statue for sunset which was beautiful, and you can see the whole of Rio from the top which is amazing at sunset. We also went up the Sugar Loaf Mountain, and saw the sunset from here which we couldnt believe was even more beautiful than from the Christ and the view was even better too!
We found an amazing restaurant called The Marius and it is a must if anyone comes to Rio. The English translation of the type of food is BBQ but it is so much better than that. It is all you can eat for 67 reals so about 25pounds. Firstly you go to the buffet and fill your plate with salads, seafood, sushi, vegetables, traditional dishes, paella's which is enough in itself and then they come around to your table crving off all different joints of meat, T bone steaks, fillet mignon, wild boar, lamb chops, pork chops, whole joints of different cuts of beef, and all the meat just melts in your mouth. Maybe the best restaurant I have ever been to.
So other than that I cant say we did a lot in Rio -Obviously spent a few days at Copacobana beach where I did not get a tan - I have actually been pointed and laughed at on several ocasions for the lightness of my skin. We went to a Brazilian football game - a final between to Rio teams - Flameno and Botafogo. We were Flamengo supporters for the day. The atmosphere was so amazing - people turn up about 2 hours before just signing and dancing and standing on the chairs the whole way through. When there a goals flares are let off. And a bit like American sport the vendors come round all the stands with food and drinks and merchandise. It is a truly different experience to an English football game, even though you arent a supporter fo the team you get so caught up and passionate about the game.
The nightlife is amazing in Rio. Lapa has street partiesd so there are cocktail bars on the streets, and food vendors, whatever you want and you just hang out in the street drinking until you find a club you want to go into. We also went to a Favella party - Favella's are the poor parts of Rio, so this was a club where all the locals go and dance. They are all amazing dancers they got an English guy on stage and put him to shame. English really cannot dance! The beers her were only 1 real thats 25p!
After 9 days and staying long enough in the hostel to get a free t-shirt it was finally time to leave. So we flew to Foz De Iguacu 3 nights ago to see the Iguacu falls and once again had a flight delay of only 1 hour this time. We went to the Argentine side of the falls yesterday and they are absolutely beautiful. We got a speed boat out on the river so we could go right upto one of the waterfalls and although by the end we were soaked to our skins from head to toe it was absolutely worth the 72 reals extra, and I would recommend it to anyone!
Today we are going by bus to Floreanopolis, this is a town on an island part of Brazil called Illha Santa Catalina. So hopefully I can work on my tan again (hahaha) as its been rather chilly here in Foz de Iguacu.
Unfortunately my camera battery is dead and my charger wont work in Brazil so I still cant get any photos up so you will just have to be bored with my words. I promise I will put picks up soon!Â
That was a real mission so I must update this thing more regualarly!
