So much for a day
Spanish lesson were very funny, we completed an exercise with body parts and verbs. Sarah uses 'your mouth works a lot,' which our teacher loved and was trying hard not to laugh. We worked it out and joined in, this was followed by my arms work a lot also and when I got the word knees, Sarah asked me not to say they work to, so I said they were very sore. Jessica and I were giggling while Sarah did the next one. She thought I was being sensible. Our lessons are filled with jokes as Jessica would be around 30.
I needed to organise a massage for my foot before the trek and she called ahead for the address and walked us to the physio to book. Great people these Peruvians.
Off to school and more bloody bracelets, now the kids were making the hearts which only Sarah knows how to make so I just taught the other kids the arrow and the diagonals. There were so many I went for a jog to get more wool.
We took the camera in for some memories and we took photos of the kids for us and for the website, some loved it and loved seeing themselves on the screen. I hope it will give you an idea of where we volunteered.
When it was time for afternoon activities with the juniors, we had organised a game of bingo with prizes, fruit for the first line, bracelets for the first with 2 lines and coloured pencils set for bingo. The kids loved it, and Clarita the supervisor who has been sick joined in as well. The first game was read out by Sarah and the little fleas just crowd around, loving and wanting to be a part of it. We finished this round with a draw for first so Sarah went out and bought another set.
We talked about a second round with only three bracelets left. We agreed that they were the prizes and everyone wanted another round. These were better quality or ones they couldn't do so it was exciting for them. Unbeknown to us, Clarita went to a mystery box and bought out three prizes for first place, three winners would get small stuffed toys. I took the reins of the cage and the crowd that came with it. With a little flea to help, we called out the numbers. By the end Clarita needed two numbers and so many kids wanted her to win they were pleading with us to call them.... It's not up to us, it's luck kids.
It was a great way to finish with the junior kids and we only had one day left.
On the way home we had many jobs to do. We had to pickup some dog food and when we enquired about it the man asked us if we realised the 25kg bag with a picture of a dog on it and full of dry food was for dogs. We had to assure him we weren't going to eat it. We got 5 kilos, we should have asked for some in a cup heated up.
After this we split up and I headed to the physio. The physio was interesting, it's very different in another language. First the stray dog in the waiting room didn't inspire hope, especially with me having 5 kgs of dog food in my bag. Once I was lead in I felt a little better with machines I had seen before. First my foot went in a loop that was an electromagnet. After 20 minutes you could see muscles twitch occasionally. Then she returned, turned it off and left again, assuring me she would return. Through the window i saw her walk into a shed in the backyard where i can only say the stairs to hell lived as I've never had a heat pack so hot. 'Ten minutes' she said and I watched her for the next 20 minutes walk in and out of the backyard and the theatre. She returned where told her it was really hot and I joked to her my foot was 'between medium and well done.'she giggled and agreed, 'maybe well done.' Least she had a sense of humour. She rubbed my foot for a minute or two and then painted it with some wax. Interesting but nice. Ten minutes later I got some cream on it and it was over. I'm not sure of all the conversations but it went well and it was only $17, one more appointment tomorrow.
When I returned to Sarah she had bought lollies, marshmallows and biscuits, 150 of each and bags and ribbons for us to prepare for 150 kids.
She realised she had left dinner in the supermarket so we tried to take the dog with us there. It went well, poor guy doesn't get out much and spends all his time on the roof of the apartment.
We got back, bagged up 150 little presents and completed our night.
There are a few photos of the presents and one for gran, 'GG we love you!!! Xxxx'
