Nazca lines
We had yet another night bus and it wasn't to bad this time. We got off groggy but ok.
As we stepped out of the bus terminal we were greeted by many people wanting to take us anywhere. When Sarah said the airport, one guy offered for two sols. We got in and and so did a travel agent, one of his friends. We arrived around the corner at a hostel. 'The airport is closed until 8,' the guy explained. This was odd since lonely planet talks of flights from 7:30. He offers us flights with different companies for 300 to 400 sols. This seemed expensive. The one we wanted was the 400 sols one (around $160).
Somethings not right here, so after we wake up a little we decide to leave this place, and since its not the airport we were not going to pay the 2 sols. We payed 5 sols for our taxi to the airport and when we arrived it was not so surprisingly open, even planes taking off as we drove. We walked in and the first place we went was the best reviewed company at 210 sols, we win you scamming p****
Sarah watched a movie on the lines while the owner of the company took me to the town to get some money out. Really nice guys at Aeroparacas. The flight started quickly after I returned. The lines are huge and there are so many of them, not just the famous ones. We saw (in the photos) the whale, astronaut, monkey, dog, hummingbird, spider, condor, Alcatraz, parrot, tree and hands. It was a great flight with the plane banking left so one side could see and then right for the other side, and no one was sick, winning.
We stayed in Nazca for lunch and got on the next bus to Ica. As soon as we started a man changed seats from one with no one behind him to I front of me and reclined all the way. This local bus didn't have much room so the man rearranged a few times, around my knees that were in his back. Sarah drew the line when he stretched and left his hands on his bald head, telling him to put the seat forward. I kneed him a few more times before he got it right and reclined a little. I think the sneeze on his bald head helped too.
We got of at Ica to some beautiful hot weather, it felt like we were on holidays! Ica is a weird place, but only 5 minutes in a taxi through a sand dune you arrive at a desert oasis, literally. It's called Huacachina. We check in to a hostel we have heard so much about, Bananas. It is so much nicer and warmer here and the hostel is fully self sufficient.
We walk around the little oasis lake, checking the style and prices of the restaurants all the way. It's a nice little oasis with massive walls of sand around it. After we return to the hostel we check the temperature of the pool outside our door..... it's bloody freezing. With gran in mind, I jump in while Sarah relaxes and stays warm. It was so cold but after everything, the cold weather and the cold hikes, the swim had to be done.
We relax with an Irish couple and enjoy a couple of quiet beers before ordering dinner. This is the plan for the whole night, just a quiet beer on the leather lounges.
