Life in Oz!
Mom, dad and Dave went for a walk on the beach early in the morning and saw a few dolphins. We also saw a few from our balcony. We ate breakfast in the Windmill at Bargara, which looked like a real windmill. We all had different ideas of what we wanted to do for the day but Dad, Dave, Cyrilla and I all wanted to tour the Bundaberg Rum Distillery so we found that but they didn't have any tours until 1pm. We bought our tickets and went to the Botanical gardens across town. It was pretty, we saw many ducks and other birds but we didn't have much time to spend there since we had to be back at the distillery 15 minutes before our tour was to commence. The tour was very interesting, they explained the whole process of how it was made, let is taste the molasses, which was very, very sweet, and gave some history of the distillery but I was hoping to see inside the big vats where the rum ages for 2 years before it is bottled. The bottling area was shut down for maintenance so we had to watch a movie of how it is done. After the tour, we went to the bar in the gift shop where we got 2 free taste tests, which were equal to one drink each. I tried the dry and lime and the liqueur, both of which were very good. The liqueur had coffee, chocolate and other flavourings in it. Mom, Sue and Gene went shopping while we were on the tour and got some fruit and chips and dip for lunch which we ate in the van on the way to Agnes Water and Town of 1770. We settled on the Mango Tree hotel to stay in for the night in Agnes Water. The Town of 1770 is just down the road a few minutes from Agnes Water. Town of 1770 got its name because it is were Captain Cook first came ashore and discovered Australia. We found the marina were we would be leaving for Fitzroy Lagoon in the morning and got up close and personal with Cuddles. While talking to a few of the locals they pointed out Cuddles, a 92-150 year old (depending on who you asked) Grouper fish. She is 2 metres long and weighs around 100 kilograms (220 lbs). The locals were eager to feed her for us. One of the guys grabbed a crab that they were unloading from one of the fishing boats and tried to lurer Cuddles up to the surface with it but she didn't seem very interested so he finally dropped it and she ate it. He then went and got a fish from the bait shop. Mom, Sue and I were all kneeling on the dock to get a good view of her coming up to grab the fish. She did it slowly at first but right before she got to the surface she came up with a lot of force to grab the fish. Mom and Sue screamed, it was hilarious and we laughed about it the rest of the night. We went back to the hotel and then drove around to find someplace for tea. We weren't having much luck, we wanted to eat at the Saltwater Café which was near the marina but they were full. We ended up eating at the café that was next door to our hotel. The food was good but somewhat pricey. Dave, Cyrilla and I went looking for ice cream and finally found some at the petrol station down the road. We all went to our room to enjoy the ice cream and then went to bed. We have to be up early to get to the boat by 7:30 tomorrow morning.
