Today we had our first morning safari. About five minutes after we left, we heard a report over the radio about a sighting of hunting dogs with food, specifically Thomson Gazelles. We caught up with them and took some pictures, including the one taken above with a dog holding a skull and horns in its mouth.
After, someone reported a sighting of a cheetah near the border of the national park and our reserve so we went to check it out. It was, in actual fact, a mother with two cubs. We all got very excited when the mother got up to chase a herd of gazelles but was scared off by a pack of babboons who would take her kill.
We then had a report of a male leopard, but by the time we got there it had hid in one of the holes around the tree where others found him. Later, on the evening safari there was another report of a leopard, this time a female. Other trucks had beaten had beaten us there, but we still got few great shots of her sleeping and even some with her eyes open! Eugen, (our driver, said like Eugene) let me use his camera that was really cool.

Dad Wow Sam. So well written. A great account.
Mary and Barry It sounds like there is a bit of a race by the human animals to see who can get there first to see the wild ones! Are there many other people staying at you lodge?
Kate Sounds like there was traffic chaos on safari this morning! I bet Eugen knows all the sneaky short cuts and prime look outs. I was wondering who's camera you were using. That is very generous of him. I love hearing of your adventures. Are Dave & Rob managing to keep you two in line? Lots of love mum
B Great account Sam - I didn't know that leopards liked to hide in holes! I'm loving all the photos - you'll have lots to sort out when you get home. Luv
