Hey all,
Hope we are all ok and enjoying the british weather! I have done so much over the last two days its unreal. Il try and keep this short and sweet as i have to catch a flight to chaing mai soon.
So we got to a place called kiti raft which is a floating house on the river kwai. Took us about 3 hours to get there but wow. What a shock, no flushing toilet, no fridge or anything. It was strange cos it was right opposite the jungle. So this is where we would be sleeping for the next two nights.
All our stuff that we booked to do would go from there so it was our main base for now. Amazing though. Waking up at ten past 6 on the river, with the sun coming over the mountain and the mist covering the top of it, a very nice site indeed.
So the first thing we went to see was the floating market. You have to obviously get into a boat to see it, so we all hopped in and off we went. It was like going on loggers leap at thorpe park. Im used to them now but its nervy at first. Saw my first elephant and my first monkey then which was cool and then chilled around the market. Its like camden market but on water and instead of pasty its deep fried squirel or something of that nature.
After the floating market we went to the cobra show, some crazy guys on crack (probably) with different snakes dodging them as they lept towards their face. Pretty good stuff but you can see all this in the pics and vids we put up soon. Need a better connection to do this.
Then on to see the Bridge over the river kwai made famous by the book and film of the same name. Amazing really but not like the film. Saw a leapard in the street with a bottle in is arms, amazing, such beautiful animals. Shame it was on a chain but atleast they are all fed well here. Some parts of thailand the animals are in abit of a state but the elephants etc are kept well.
Still not the same though as being in the wild.
Then we went to the tiger temple, i wont say much about this as they are all chained up and i didnt enjoy it as much as others did. Again, amazing and beautiful animals though.
After that we went to chill at a waterfall which was amazing. All the locals were there and it was basically like aquasplash in hemel hempstead, you could slide down the rocks etc and it was lovely.
So that was just the first day, now onto the second.
First things first was to climb 1500 metres up a mountain to view 7 waterfalls, the rain the night before meant we couldnt swim but jesus christ, it was so hard, but i was determined to get to the top first, especially as there was a french couple in our group, so i dragged suzi up there! It wasnt just a trail, you had to climb rocks and rivers etc, all the way through the jungle. Amazing aswell cos there were wild monkeys around. Got to the top after an hour and it was spectacular, but had to head straight back down to get the bus back or lunch back on the river kwai.
The food is gorgeous! After the food we were off to hellfire pass. For any of you who dont know what this is, il explain. During the second world war, the Japanese army invaded british and australian colonies in thailand and other places like malaya (malasia). They didnt sign to the genev convention therefore they put all the POWs (prisoners of war) to work on a massive railway that goes from Burma to thailand to transport diesel and supplies etc. Hundreds of thousands of people died from beatings, to starvation. Horrible conditions. It was a very fitting museum though and e veryone very respectful. Amazing views over the valley aswell, but the hellfire pass is where the deepest digging took place. They would work 8 hours a day and drill holes in the mountain and use dynamite to explode and move the rock, then they would clear the rock and move on through the mountain. The railway in total was over 600 kilometres long and it works out that for every sleeper (piece of wood that holds the track) one mans life was lost. Thats how sad it is.
Back to the small waterfall though for some swimming and to cool off then back to dinner. After dinner we got ready and went to the bar at the end of the raft and i got pissed but suzi was on tablets so couldnt drink.
One of the ozzy guys caught a giant grasshopper and i held it and it was f***ing brilliant! But another guy wound it up cos he was abit of a k*** and it bit me, so i flung it against the wall which i wasnt proud of!
Atleast we ot a lie in though so up at 9:30 and out to the elephants at 10. We rode them through the bush and alongthe road and then got to see a baby elephant aswell. Got to feed the elephants aswell after that which was really cool. Going back to the accomodation and then rafting back to the diner area which was about 15 to 20 minutes raft down the river kwai was cool. Really peaceful. I got asked if i wanted to jump off the rope bridge to the river kwai and i said yea! so i jumped and it was like nothing id done before, so scary but once in the air it was ok!
Anyway gotta go now and catch my flight. Chat all Soon! miss you all xxx
