hey,
so ive been in Cairns for a week and its great here. the weather hasnt been too good as its the wet season up north but its been gorgeous the last 2 days. On Friday i went on a trip to Kuranda which is a small town in the hills of the rainforest. it was amazing up there as we travelled through the rainforest on cable cars stopping at different points in the rainforest as we went. It was absolutley pouring it down all day but it was still gorgeous because of the mist. The rainforest had so many dangerous things in it. we did a small tour with a guide and he was pointing out all these dealdly plants and insects, it was kind of scarey. there was even one small plant that if u brushed up against it u would have 'serious pain for up to 2 months' lol once we got to the town there were loads of local markets and resturants selling aboriginal goods, but it was a too wet to look around properly. we caught an old train back down through the rainforest which had spectacular views!!! we even drove right next to a huge waterfall. God knows how they built a train track like that back in the day.
Yesterday i went to the great barrier reef, it was amazing!! The best thing ive ever done! We went out on a really cool boat that had a sundeck for us to sunbath on and we stopped at 3 different coral reef stops. i saw some amazing fish, we saw marvin a huge fish that was almost as big as me. it was swimming with us all and felt so slimy. While everyone was gathered around marvin i turned around to look at some other things and had the shock of my life.... there was a reef shark right next to me! it wasnt big probably 4ft long but it was fast and looked mean! The Coral was amazing too, so colourful compared to thailand because its not dead yet. i saw a family of clown fish (nemos) in the coral and so many others. one bad thing was tho that despite us wearing stinger suits i still managed to get stung. not by a jelly fish i dont think although there were absolutly loads about. one of the crew said it was probably a sea lice but it damn hurt. my whole arm started tingling then started to go numb slowley so in my normal over dramatic fashion i swam to the boat screaming ive been stung ive been stung, a crew memeber came staight over with some vinegar and it just went away with no mark!! i looked really silly but at the time it was scarey because i didnt know what i had been stung by haha
im leaving cairns in a couple of days to travel the whitsunday islands and fraser island which looks loads of fun, so ill update when ive got something interesting to say again. Hope everyone is well
