hey, so im in Brisbane right now enjoying being back in the city and shopping. There's lots to fill you in on before i arrived in Brisbane, like Fraser island, Rainbow Beach and Noosa.
After leaving Airlie Beach we travelled on a 12 hour coach journey to Rainbow beach which we used as our base to explore Fraser island from. Rainbow was a really small hick town in the middle of nowhere, it didnt even have mobile signal, but fraser island was even more remote. Fraser is the largest sand island in the world and has over a 100 dune lakes. We booked a self drive 4x4 trip to see the island. The car seated 11 and we had 2 cars so there was quite a big group of us travelling and camping together. There were no roads on the island, just the 75 mile beach and dirt tracks which led to a bumpy ride and a constant fear of turning the 4x4 over! The lakes were gorgeous and so fresh you could drink out of them. It was a welcome relief to swim in the lakes with the heat, especially as we couldn't swim in the sea because of the large amounts of tiger sharks just off shore! There was also a really cool creek on one part of the island that you could get in near the top and float down in the current to the bottom. It was funny to watch the many korean tourists trying to copy us because most of them couldn't swim haha
On the island there is a shipwreck of the S.S Maheno. The Maheno was built in 1905 and was originally a luxery liner, but on its way to Japan it got caught in a cyclone and shipwrecked with 3 and half storys buried under the sand!! Fraser is also the only place in Australia with pure dingoes that havent bread with a dog. we saw quite a few of them but we didnt go near them because they are supposed to be quite dangerous.
Anyway enough of the history lesson. After fraser and a few more days in rainbow Beach where it was raining so much everywhere had flooded, we headed to Noosa. Noosa was a lovely beach and fishing town that had a lot of Australian holiday homes and expensive restaurants. It rained most of our time here also, but thankfully the weather turned the day we went to the Australian Zoo (Steve Irwins Zoo). It was a really good zoo, but it was wierd to see the croc hunter and his family eveywhere. There were photos, videos and loads of merchandise with them on. The crocoseam was the best part of the day. It was amazing to see the crocodiles actually moving. The croc keepers must have been as crazy as Irwin to be in there with them!
So back to Brisbane! Its Australias 3rd biggest city and has lots of good shops, but its nothing special, just another city. Im heading to Surfers paradise in a few days and Byron bay before getting back to sydney. Hopefully the weather will be better as the aussies keep telling us that this is their worst summer ever!!
Thankyou eveyone who has left me messages :-)
