We arrived in Paraty at about 10pm and got a taxi to the hostel. The hostel had a bar and pizzeria within it so it was pretty vibing when we arrived. However the idea of Paraty was to chill out so we just got a fruit juice in a went to bed pretty early. The next morning we got up early and had a wonder into to town. The beaches around the hostel weren't that desirable and to be honest a little disappointing as the pictures I'd seen showed white sand beaches and clear blue seas. We later found out that these beaches were in the surrounding islands and not actually on the mainland. The town was nice, old cobbled streets and a nice bustling feel to it. The next few days we managed to stick operation recharge for carnival and get some early nights and nothing days. On the fourth night however after watching some football with a couple guys we'd met we decided to have a cheeky night out to see what Paraty had to offer. We saw this a ls a research mission for when the girls got here. By the time we where going out the mood was good, there was a reggae band playing and our group had grown to about 10 strong! We stayed drinking until about midnight until we went out to a grubby little club. The next morning we were supposed to be going to the geko hostel for a change scenery but the weather was s*** and I felt even s***ter so we stayed at the hostel another night. The next night however our hostel was full so we had to go over to the geko and hope they still had our reservation. They did but made us pay or the night we'd missed. That night was quite cool. The geko hostel had a beach bar so we sat out there with a guy we met in our room and two Brazilians from Rio. This was a good chance to pick there brains about carnival. We head to bed about midnight and wake up quite fresh ready for our 10.20 bus to Rio. Overly excited about Rio and sort of relaxed from Paraty operation recharge was complete, well about 90 percent recharged but the excitement for carnival more than makes up for the last 10 percent.
