We arranged to meet everyone from Huacachina in Cuzco, so were all staying at the same hostel, which led to a very messy saturday night out! We were told it was a halloween party so were planning to wear a halloween mask and black bin bags, only for the girls to find out when they went to get tickets that it was a red carpet event with press, and a theme, fashion disasters with a definite gay twist! Oh oh.
A very quick 2 hour trip around the second hand stalls to find outfits, led by a very critical Peruvian, 1 dress for the girls was disapproved, you dont want to look tacky darling! was his comment lol. Hannah manged to dress herself with two scarves and some pins, Mrs Campton and the trash fashion girls would have been proud! My outfit lol, thats all needs to be said! GREAT NIGHT!
Now time to prepare for Machupicchu. We were picked up bright and ealry at 5.20am.
Day 1 was lovely and sunny, and not too difficult, although we soon learned that Peruvian flat isnt flat at all! Edwin & Jimmy, our guides, showed everyone how to chew Coca leafs, apparently good at releasing nutrients for energy which we needed. They were also amazing at explaining about sites and the history of the area.
Day 2 was the most difficult, and the weather began to turn, the rain set in However the amazing food we were served throughout the trek eased the pain a little lol. Day 2 was when we reached the highest point, after climbing some very high steps! Being overtaken by porters carrying about 26kg on their backs.
Day 3 was supposed to be an easier day and downhill, which it definitely wasnt, but thankfully not as difficult as the day before. The scenery slowly changed from mountains to jungle, and the rain got heavier, as you can see from my face in one of the photos.....not happy lol. Eased a little by the clouds parting and finally seeing some breath taking views.
It was also Matt & Trang´s birthdays, which resulted in the cook making an amazing birthday cake for them.
Day 4 - Machupicchu day!! 3.40am wake up! After queuing to get through the gate at 5.30am, wasting time by playing Pictionary on the mud floor, it was a tough 1hour to reach the Sungate, however there was no sun there, and Hannahs bottom lip came out as you couldnt see a thing! As we slowly made our way down to Machupicchu, the clouds again parted slghtly giving us a quick glimpse. This quick glimpse was enough to make you realise why you had been walking for 4days! Although when we arrived at the site we were very envious of all the clean people climbing off the buses.
Edwin gave us an amazing tour around Machupicchu, and the whole thing blew our minds! If you´d like a history lesson we will be available for one, although there will be a charge lol.
After exploring for about 4hours we headed down to the town for a much earned pizza, and a soak in the hot springs.
We arranged to meet everyone in Cuzco the day after we got back, taking in a few of the sites rather than just being drunk. We visited the Inca Museum, and a ´Golden Temple´ although not so gold after the Spanish stole it all!
Then it was time for the drunken-ness lol.
