We arrived at the Soi Safari Hotel after a very bumpy journey. Welcomed with fruit juice and cold flannels which was lovely.
Done the usual, get to room, shower, go to dinner. After the evening little talk about the day and whats happening the next day, we were all ready to head off to bed. Just as we were about to go, the staff came into the dining room, almost like a conga, but they were singing and went round the room a couple of times until they brought out a huge birthday cake for one of the ladies. It was great to watch and with everyone clapping in time to the singing, it really raised everyone's spirits. Just when we headed down to reception to get to our room, a group of local masi mara, wearing traditional costumes came in and started singing and dancing. We followed them into a room were we sat and watched them perform to us. The vibe was fantastic, then they started pulling us up to dance with them. Lots of going round in a big circle like ring a ring of roses, but with stamping of feet in certain directions, weaving in and out etc. high energy stuff but so uplifting. Was a great night.
Finally we went off to bed and along came the hugest tropical thunderstorm I have ever experienced. Awesome lighting over lake Baringo, which then came crashing straight over head. Terrific claps of thunder and the rain came down so hard, it turned paths into rivers. A 10 second run to the room left us soaked through! It didn't bode well for a good nights sleep!
