HELLLLLO - we are now in Aus land...Sydney to be precise. Didn't take long to fly here from NZ - only about 3 hours but had a bit of a mare when we got here - Hadn't booked any hostels so spent about 30 mins or so at the airport ringing round loads of places - eventually found a place centrally located which was ace except the fact that there are no bowls to eat out of. We're all having to eat cereal from mugs - so word of warning anyone wanting to stay at BASE Sydney - don't bother. Anyway, met up with Annabel (for those who don't know who she is an Aussie and we used to work together back in London). Had a few bevvies in Paddington which is just off Oxford Road...but I didn't do my old trick of having water in between drinks and totally regretted it as I was sick at least 3 times during the night. To make matters worse we had to share a dorm on the first night ("the horror!" - says Nathan) the only bed available was a top bunk...had to make my way down the ladder and out to the batheroom. Did remember drawing a few strange looks when I crashed into the girls loo whilst trying not to vomit all over the floor! Classy bird me.
So far we've been to the Bridge, Opera House, Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Fish Market, Oxford St and Manly Bay which was totally ace.
Sydney is amazing and I'm totally in love with the place. Towering skyscrapers, gorgeous Botanical gardens and wide array of wildlife and fab architecture. At Darling Harbour there was a Latino Cultural Festival so heaps of dancing going on...from Salsa to Latino to Capoeria dancers - check out the photos. When we were chilling in the Botanical Gardens there were heaps of people finishing wedding ceremonies and one really special moment was when a plane started to write a romantic message in the sky...I love you Shel...how adorable!!
Coogee - Here at Coogee Beach ...staying here until 10th Oct when we're off to Brisbane. This beach is only about 4 beaches down from the famous Bondi Beach. But much prefer Coogee as its slightly quieter and more family orientated. Did the Coogee to Bondi walk which takes in some spectaular ocean scenery and surfing spots. Takes about an hour or so each way so I'm getting lots of good exercise in. Not much really to do here in Coogee except work on the tan - and believe me Nathan's been on the beach every day for about 8 hours at atime!! And lo and behold my pasty husband is a figment of my imagination as I now have a golden adonis (think the sun has got to my brain aswell!!)...
Yesterday went to the Blue Mountains which are just outside Sydney. Fab full packed day which took in the rainforest, the world's steepest train, kangaroos in the wild and a jetcat back into Sydney Harbour...taking in some of the world's most expensive real-estate...BLING!!!!
Anyway, thanks again to those who are posting messages on the board...really ace to know that I'm not typing away for nothing!!! Keep well and behave. Love Rubes and Nat
