Rubbi and Nathan's Extended Honeymoon Travels...
Okay where do I start the last 36/48 hours of my life have been the strangest by far what with missing tickets, downpurs, and Mormons.
So first things first - checked in at Vegas for flight back to LA for connecting flight to here. Checkin desk clerk takes our round the world ticket and staples to boarding card - Nate and I think its a little strange but don't ask questions!! So Get to NZ check in desk at LA and clerk there tells us that we can't get on the plane and might need to pay $1000 to do so as we have a missing ticket. Yup you guessed it - the ticket is somewhere in Las Vegas airport!! Cue panic stricken faces and loss of tan on Nathan'[s face (Yes Reena he momentarily had a tan!)...6 hours, $20 meal vouchers and 2 knackered Brits later the tickets are flown back to LA with 40 mins to spare before our connecting flight to Tahiti took off...
Fun doesn't stop there either...land in Tahiti and the airport is so cute, loads of people even though its 6am and lots of singing. Realise that our hotel is the other side of the Island and will cost about 60 quid in taxi - one way. So saving cash Nathan decides we are to take the bus (I currently have one foot in the taxi!)...so get to Papeete and wait for bus...having been told that its unrealiable the locals tell us it should be here shortly....and so the wait begins..."another 20 mins" say the locals - this is 1.5 hrs later...By this point its started to chuck it down and I'm wearing strappy top and shorts...nice and wet but Nathan's made a friend. Get chatting to him (stephen) and he tells us which bus to get and where to get off..Bus arrives 2.5 hrs later and with soggy clothes begin the one hour journey - complete with Tahitian music (cool). Stpehen then offers to give his wife a call and arrange to pick us up and help us find this hotel...gladly accept. We meet his wife in this church carpark...me being nosey take a peek in the window and cue Stpehen asking if we want to go in. Escaping the rain we go in.
Everyone seems a little too nice and welcoming then we get inside adn we're greeted byt Elder so and so...look round and see pictures of temples...then it all clicks...Church of Latter Day Saints - Stephen is a Mormon...we're then taken around (willingly by the way) the church and get to know them. They are really sweet but I just kept reiterating that I was a Sikh... Anyway 2 hrs later we leave and Stephen drops us off at the hotel - WOWWWWW this place is fantastic VANIRA LODGE, TEAHUPOO...Heaven, only 4 gorg bamboo huts set into the trees and endless views of the Pacific...no doors and no windows, pool and manicured lawns...its perfect.
Had dinner on Monday with Stephen and his wife- went to this cool burget van place and had one of the best meals ever...perfect fish
Our flight was 5am in the morning and Stephen and Marylise then offered for us to stay with them the night before our flight when they would drop us off at the airport the next day...angels totally....
Tahiti is bloody expensive by the way but absolutely gorg...
