Early morning to catch the ferry from John O' Groats that would take us to Orkney Islands. The weather was not at its best but luckily we had a bus and busdriver that would drive us around the islands. This trip was great. The busdriver was amazing and we could se places that had so much history that was almost unbelievable.
The first stop was a town called Stromness, a small fishing community where he had lunch. The streets were narrow and the houses had some colour as the weather, grey.
Afterwards we went to Skara Brae. This is an old community that dates back 5000 years were you can see that people lived in neighbourhoods. It was me, Rikard and Julia who entered and we were all taken away. It feels unreal to touch and see things that dates back 5000 years and you feel kind of small.
The bus continued the historical path and the next stop also dated back 5000 years ago. It was the ring of Brodgar and standing stones of Stenness. You can really wonder what this formations was for. Was it religion, to see the different seasons or was it a track for running which me and Rikard suggested. I vote for the last one.
Kirkwall was the next stop where we had some shopping where I bought some whisky for my dad and had a carrot cake. We were all really tired at that time so it was nice to sit on the bus again and head to our next stop which was the Italian Chapel.
This was Rikard's favourite part of the whole trip. This chapel was built by the building workers from Italy who made the Churchill barriers during the second world war. A small chapel created by to containers and painted as it filled with tiles. I can totally get why Rikard loved it.
Since this was the last stop we then went to catch the ferry to get to the hostel and watch some Eurovision. (Wooooooh)
Kisses
