Got up early, had breakfast and made our way to the bus stop for the 8.35 bus to Cuitadella.
We were informed by our rep that it is arts and craft market day and something not to be missed, we thought we would be able to get some gitfs to bring back.
80 minutes later we arrived in Cuitadella, walked down to the harbour which was a lovely view and didn't smell of fish. Finally found the centre of town and made our way to the Cathedral in hope to actually light some candles - wrong !! again it was the plastic bulbs that you switched on with a flick of the switch, not what we wanted.
Wandered aimlessly up and down the streets to find the elusive market but after an hour got bored and went for coffee in a lovely square where we could people watch. Jackie then asked an english lady if should could direct us to the market to be asked if it was the "fish or veg one" that we wanted, when we told her no the arts and crafts she informed us that it was infact on a Friday & Saturday in Cuitadella and not Tuesday, as our expert rep had informed us. The arts and craft market was in Mahon, that's the town that is closed all day Sunday. We have come to the conlusion that our rep only knows the locations and opening times of Burger King.
So now for the dilemma, do we get a bus to Mahon or go back to the beach, we can't really take back whats on offer on the beach as presents, so we caught another bus to Mahon which took a swift 50 minutes along the main road.
Arrived in Mahon and found the market in the main square, this was more like what we wanted. Gave the euros a good sending off and laiden down with carrier bags. Whilst looking for a tiled house door number we went into a quaint little nick-nack shop and our eyes began to bulge because on one whole shelf at eye level were how should we put this for the timid readers - meat substitutes and adult entertainment equipment, for some of the appliances we had to study the boxes as we were not sure how they were meant to be used. We are sure that these would even make Ann Summers blush !! Glad to report that we only came out of the shop with the number tiles.
Shopping done, we had to kill time with a fruit smoothie and discuss said shop.
Arrived back at the resort at teatime, got showered and changed, subconsciously both put our white linen trousers on to find that iit was White Night in the bar. Phew thankfully we blended in for a change.
It started as an alcohol free evening but we had to partake as it would've been rude not to and even ended up dancing. The evening entertainment consisted of a saxaphonist who played over records and a dance group of 2 women and 2 young men ish, who were dressed like something out of Swan Lake, have you even seen anyone doing ballet to Saturday Night Fever or YMCA, what a laugh.
We didn't do our normal pointing finger bits though but when they came around the audience to pull people up on the dance floor we both gripped the edges of our table and didn't move. I have never seen us both grab out drinks so fast.
Sadly the music ended just as we were getting into full mode, which was a good thing as we might have had a few more vodka's and at 14 euros for 2 it was a tad expensive and we couldn't afford to have blurry eyes for tomorrows rerun of the art exhibition, as we are planning a picnic on the beach.
