Day Eight Venice, Italy-Romance in a gondola on the water of Venice. Not by us! First Impression: There was lots of graffiti and it was dirtier than I thought! We arrived in Venice as planned, checked the bags at the train station and headed to the ferry. We took the ferry to St Marks Square. Jumped out at St Marks and headed into the Cathedral with 10 minutes left before it closed. I had my daypack and had to check it at the cathedral allowing us to pass people in line. The Cathedral was very ornate and everything was golden inside. We grabbed my bag and exited exploring the square and headed for dinner. Prior to dinner we found a wine station, a place where wine is pumped from gas pumps at 3 Euros a liter. "Filler up," we told the wine station owner and then headed through the alley's on foot (a freaking long walk) back to the train station and dinner. We passed over the bridge of sighs, under construction and very blue, passed by tons of gondolas passing through the canals and visited with a serval groups of people along the way. There were tons of kids on holiday from school…We headed to the station after dinner and more wine and that is where we met Gigi. Getting a picture on the train platform of Tim and I with the city name became a regular occurrence for us. While waiting to board the night train we asked one of the conductors, a young man named Gigi, to take our photo. We found out that he was in charge of our sleeping car. Drinking wine from our cheap "Wine Station" liter bottles, we befriended Gigi quickly.
