We awoke feeling surprisingly spritely and headed to meet The Italians and Linda and Brian at the bar for the customary early morning Prosecco! A nice glass of something fizzy, at 10.30am really does set you up for the day!
After catching up with the locals we had a gentle stroll up to Castel Brando, via a busy funicular journey to the summit! Holly was shown the infamous 'Scuzzi Scuzzi' stairs, where Rob had revealed a little too much to the night porter after locking himself out of the room, on our previous visit. Just the thought of it made us feel a little queasy and so we thought it best to head to the terrace bar, to settle our nerves!
We strolled back down into the village and on to Cecilia and Caesar's in time for a light lunch (ha!). They had prepared a feast of ribs, chicken and sausage that had been roasted in a rotisserie basket on their BBQ for 4 hours, with roasted sage and rosemary potatoes, dressed tomatoes, cabbage and lettuce... yum yum! All washed down with a little tipple of wine!
Feeling very sleepy and content we decided we needed to wake ourselves up, so we walked through the wooded paths, following the crystal clear stream up to the Easter Fiesta! We were all gasping by the time we reached the festivities, especially Rob, who had to carry Rose in the baby carrier all the way! We listened to live music whilst rehyradting with water... and a beer! (when in Rome and all that!!).
On the way back to Cecilia's we stopped at a bar to meet Barbara, where we were very excited to be served by a very hunky Italian Stallion, Francesco! Cecilia managed to persuade him to give us the raffia serving bottle from our delicious Malbec, for Linda to take home; he agreed, but probably just so he could escape the harem of drunken women swooning over him!
When we returned back to the house it was time for supper; potato skin soup (the skins left over from the roasted potatoes, boiled down with stock and risotto rice) and pasta (left over from the night before) with béchamel sauce and meat ragu, both were absolutely delicious! Who'd have thought left overs could be made into such a delicious meal!?
While we ate, and drank, we looked at old photos, from John and Jenny's (Linda's parents) visits to Italy, to Cecilia and Ceasar's trips to the UK. We laughed at the fashions, Linda's wedding photos, and Brian's shirt, which he was wearing in all of his photos...and was still wearing today! Caesar recounted the stories behind the photos, the funniest being that of a chicken (the photo was of a chicken lying flat on it's back, wings spread wide) who was ill, so Caesar gave it half an aspirin and some Grappe; the drunken chicken had passed out, to wake up feeling much better the next day, if a little hungover!!
At a very modest 8.30pm we decided it was time to call it a night and headed back up the mountain, for a cup of tea and an early night, leaving Linda and Brian to party with the Italians! Stamina obviously takes practice, so we just need to keep trying!!!
