We hit the road early, with plans to spend the day in Seefeld, Austria. The sun was shining and we were all in high spirits as we pulled into the services to top up with fuel for the journey ahead. As we pulled back onto the Autobahn, Rob and Holly looked slightly alarmed as the car began to chug and shudder...then Brian confirmed that there was black smoke following the truck! We coasted into the next services just after the engine gave up!
Rob realised that he had put petrol into his diesel truck, after showing the helpful man who'd come over to check everything was ok, his fuel receipt!
We were really impressed as the recovery truck pulled in, just an hour later, promptly followed by a *SMASH*, as a Smart car drove straight into the back of it! So we waited, again, for a recovery truck to rescue the recovery truck and for another recovery truck to rescue us! We finally made it to the garage, where they drained the truck of 60 litres of petrol, before eventually continuing our journey 4 hours later, a little tired and fed up!
As we approached the Tirol region, however, we began to perk up slightly, as we were treated to fantastic views of the snowcapped mountains. We arrived at The Dorfkrug Apartments and headed for a much needed drink, or three! Once again we enjoyed fabulous food, very similar to that in Germany, whilst we took it in turns to poke fun at Rob, for his earlier mishap!
The next morning the huge breakfast spread of cheese, eggs (painted of course!) meats and breads put us on track for a gentle stroll around the lake in the Olympic town of Seefeld, a ski resort in the winter. After giving our cameras a good airing we set off again, towards Italy, the fourth country in as many days!
