Sure enough at six the bus came, we got to the port at five to seven and boarded our little boat, it wasn't that busy but there were some freaky deeky Dutch next to us, we dangled our legs over the edge of the boat and hoped the sun would burn through the clouds as it was not yet warm. It was a fairly uneventful adventure, the boat journey lasted three hours and I was kaking it that I would be sea sick, but I was not, we even resorted to playing eye-spy which when you can see water and clouds is a little tedious. The island approached it looked tropical, lined with palm trees and crystal blue water. We arrived and the usual cry's for 'ay you mate, you wan taxi?' they seem to have a lot of mates these taxi blokes, but I am not one of them. We had previously discussed with a diving school bloke about getting to the south of the island and he said we could get on his bus with his diving lot for fifty Baht each, we were suspicious of him as he gave us a free map, turns out he was just a genuinely helpful nice bloke, we said no though thinking we would get it cheaper on land, but every other taxi wanted one hundred Baht each so just as he was pulling away we flagged him down, turns out all the taxi's and his bus on the island are pick up trucks. This was good fun though as we piled in with six other people and their rucksacks, there was no back on the truck so we were pretty close to the road, but it was a short journey, that was actually one of my favorite bits of our trip, it felt right and not dangerous, I felt a proper traveller. We walked for a while and saw a sign for 'Freedom Hotel' we walked up a steep hill to the reception (we hadn't booked) and two crouts sneaked in front of us, they said they wanted the cheapest room and insisted on being shown the room, which due to language confusion meant we had to see our room as well, it was a trek in it's self up and down hill and steps, about three hundred yards from the reception/bar, the views as we peered through the trees were picture postcard to say the least and we approached a tired old looking bungalow (shed) which was up on stilts and we were high in the trees by this point and the little balcony poked its way out of the front of the shed, the view over the bay was one of wonder surrounded by palm trees and green, with big rocks positioned up the hill, the greeny blue crystal clear water below was enticing, I looked at Sarah and she looked back we both had cheeky smiles on our face. He undid the padlock (told you it was a shed) and inside it was bare wood with a double bed in, the slats on the floor were about five milimetres apart and underneath you could see a big bolder and some plants about eight feet down, the bathroom was very simple it had a shower, toilet and a sink, the toilet didn't have a flush, the technique was to fill a bucket up with water and launch it down there, also the room had no hot water, it was basic but perfect in every way. We walked back to reception and said we wanted two nights as it was a little gem, and for both nights it was twenty pounds. Even though it was one of the most special things I have ever seen the two Gerry's were unsure whether it was right, 'for my ten pounds do we get breakfast included?' asked the male German 'no' replied the girl at the desk in a don't be such a tight arse way, they then left presumably to book into a palace for ten pounds a night. We grabbed our bags and went to the room and marveled over the view for a few minutes, we then got changed and hit he beach, it was a bit cloudy so went for a drink. The bar looked over the bay and we got cushions to sit on the decking with a table about ten inches off the floor, Sarah said 'I am going to have a beer' I nearly fell of my seat...cushion, as she never drinks beer, we also ordered food both of us noodles but mine with seafood and Sarah's with vegetables. Was tasty tasty but Sarah couldn't drink all of her beer (shame) so I necked it, at this point I noticed that Chang was six point four percent, no wonder it was making me squiffy. We then went back for a cold shower and decided to explore, we climbed up what seemed like a mountain through trees, up rocks for about twenty minutes to a view point, it looked out over two bays, ours and the shark bay on the other coast, it felt like we were on top of the world, it took us about as long to get down the hill as it did to get up it due to the flip flops flipping slipping. Safely back at the hut we climbed out onto one of the boulders and sat in the sun looking at the scenery, Sarah went for a shower and I stayed out on the rock, then it was my turn and by jingo it was cold, I didn't even feel any less dirty. I then sat on the balcony while Sarah transformed form a beautiful girl in to an egg and had a nap. I woke her up about two hours later and we got dressed for dinner, we went back to the bar we had lunch in, 'hello again' the chap said. We decided to have a drink first and Sarah had a bloody lovely looking coconut shake with rum, it was like an alcoholic bounty it was a dream, I had a Chang then at just before seven we decided to order food, they were closing (yes at seven) and we had to go back to the main bar for food, to be fair we were the only customers in there. We got round there and Sarah decided to have another beer, we ordered food and I got wound up as they brought mine out and it was a good ten minutes after mine before Sarahs food arrived, anyway no matter, we ate up and went back to our tree house, half eaten my mosquitoes they were everywhere Sarah I think got it worse than me, we were tired due to the late night and the early start and went to bed, I tucked the mosquito net all around the bed to prevent anymore bites, I checked my phone and it was only eight thirty oh well, I was out like a light.
