Rich & Beths World Tour
Hi everyone
Its 2 o'clock in the afternoon and we're sat in an internet cafe back on the famous Kao San Rd killing time and waiting for our flight to Sydney Australia.
We have spent the last couple of weeks on two islands off the southern peninsular of Thailand. The first island named Koh Tao really was like a paradise postcard. We stayed in a bamboo hut about 25 metres from the beach. It was hot and sunny every day and if it wsnt for our pain in the arse accommodation geezer it really would have been paradise!! Beth did some diving here, which she said was incredible and only just missed out on seeing a turtle (the creature which gave the island its name, tao = turtle) From the Island we also ventured to Koh Pah Ngan for the infamous full moon party. We met up with another group from Koh Tao and armed with our buckets partied through the night on the beach. Our endurance owed as much to the copious amounts of red bull consmed as it did to the night itself!!!!
Pretty soon after that we headed to the Island of Koh Phi Phi on the other side of the peninsular. This is the island where the film 'the beach' was filmed and one of the highlights of our time there was a boat trip to the filming location itself. The scenery there was amazing and pics will follow. Koh Phi Phi was also one of the worst affected islands during the Tsunami of Christmas 2004 and is still in the extremely noisy and busy process of recovering from the disaster. Whilst the weather here was a bit of a let down we still managed to make it to the beach on several occasions; Beth is soon to be mistaken for an aborigine!!!
On our final night we used up our remaining baht on a meal at one of the harbour hugging fish restaurants. I had red snapper and Beth had sea bass, both grilled on the bbq and served with rice or potato for the princely sum of less than 6 Pounds!!!
. . . . . . . so we've come to the end of our tour of South East Asia and we can both honestly say that we wouldn't have changed a thing (except beth adds, that she might like to change the toilets!!!!)
From the bustling cities to the amazingly serene and undisrupted countryside and the ancient cultural aretefacts to remnants which testify to more recent and less glorious histories, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia really are three of the most interesting and ultimately fun places to travel and we would reccommend the experience to anyone considering it!
For us though the journey continues down to Oz for what we're sure will be an altogether diferent but equally amazing five weeks.
We hope everyone is well and miss you all
lots of love
Rihc and Beth
